Pete, as I explained in my PM to you....there is another approach. -Al
My Sako A1 22PPC.
It's an real 1/4" five shot factory rifle. The only thing I've done is pillar bed it, adjust the factory target trigger and a little bit of load work.
Amazing rifles,...
Works for me as well, Wayne! ;) -Al
Unless the pillars are compressing and/or the receiver to bedding contact isn't a stress free micron fit, there's no magic or specific action screw torque thats needed.
The screws need to...
When I worked with it in my Swifts, I used N140 load info and went up from there. -Al
Jackie, the work your shop does always fascinates me. To work on stuff that large to the tolerances you do is impressive. Then figure in the environment those boats work in... amazing.

Now that's just crazy talk:eek:, buddy.
Six year old bullets, 10 ogive, powder that hasn't been made since Jesus visited Omaha* and moly coated, to boot!
It'll never work! -Al...
The aviation weather showed that Monday's wind direction(s) would be about as good as it gets for testing at our range with the air moving W/SW in the early morning. This is what I call 'Happy Hour'...

The Covid pandemic opened the door for the biggest election fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.
That's not pro or con either side...just the reality. -Al
Pete, I can recommend Dan to do the job correctly. -Al
I would start with an available, known-quantity bullet (the BIB or the Berger 115) and get a base line. Then, get your hands on some bullets made in the dies you're interested in. See how they shoot...
Here's my 2 cents worth on it.
To start with, there's no way I'd allow myself to be at the mercy of import/export laws to participate in a hobby that I enjoy. Period. That's the hard headed...
A flat based 6mm in that weight range makes so much sense! ;)
Good stuff. -Al
Agreed on the cleanliness. I keep the core seating punches in plastic lab tubes with screw on tops, the punch holders are in heavy duty zip lock plastic bags and everything is kept in a food grade...
They are steel dies, Jackie.
Besides everything else he's educated me on (and continues to do so), one rule always come to mind:
"The problem with making a good bullet is that...
"You're killin' me, Smalls...killin' me!" :D -Al

Jackie and Oliver: Yes, I sold all my bullet making stuff several years ago.
Some years ago, I helped another friend, Steve Grosvenor, get set up to make his own .30 cal BR bullets. Steve...
Not the greatest day for testing new bullets with winds from the 8 o'clock from 14-18 mph. but the good thing about that is at our range, that wind direction dampens the vertical out pretty well. If...
I've had four of them over the years. Decent optics....a
bit better than the Weaver T36s to my eyes....solid tracking and always held their zero. Back when they were available, the Big Sky version...
A wife sends her husband out to buy a new suit for a swanky party they were invited to. Prone to getting stuff wrong, she gives him very specific instructions on where to go and what to get. He...
