Winchester 72 stuck bolt

Tried research and google but am coming up empty, not sure where else to go, hopefully this is okay here? Trying to help my buddy out. He has a model 72 rimfire and for the second time the bolt has become stuck open, cant get it out or in. Last time he muscled it and got it working, this time its hopeless. cant push the feed ramp down, cant budge the safety, cant do anything. He is thinking about taking the rear of the bolt apart. You can look inside the action and it looks like the bolt guides are not lining up with the bolt notches. Just curious if anyone has run into this before? I tried to work it out without getting too agressive, it barely rocks back and forth.

Thanks!

Has the stock been removed so that the trigger and safety can be looked at? As I remember the 72 is the tubular magazine model of the box magazine 69, and the single shot 47. I've had a 47 for nearly 60 years and have never had a problem with its bolt sticking, but the trigger and safety are visible with the stock removed which should show why the safety is stuck. The bolt should come out when the trigger is pulled and the bolt pulled back.

I'd be leery of trying to disassemble the bolt while it's stuck in the receiver because it's not likely to go back together again. It sounds like your buddy follows the "never force a part use a bigger hammer" theory of fixing mechanical devices, which can sometimes work, but frequently leads to the problems he's now experiencing.
