Scorers, please have a look.....

We started a league and none of us has experience with plugs, so two sets of photos. On both shots a sliver white was visible between black from bullet and ring. When plugged neither showed white, the plug just kissing the ring. Question 1. Should they have been plugged? Question 2. are they good? Thank you....

Old Gus, are you scoring best edge or worst edge on your targets?

I think they are close enough, that plugging was needed to confirm the score. Kinda depends on the rules you're using for scoring.

On plug 1, I see no white space between the side of the plug and the green ring, so I think it's a 10.
On plug 2, I see it overlaps the green ring just a bit, so I think it's a 10.

Both assume best edge scoring. Worst edge both would definitely be a 8, since the pulg shows the holes goes past the edge of the white ring into the larger green ring.

My opinion only...

Definitely worth plugging and I'd say they both look good....from here. The plug giveth, and the plug taketh away.

Out of curiosity, I'd like to see a profile picture of the "plug" -- can you post such?

I thought I understood worst edge scoring, but maybe not. Based on my possible misunderstanding of worst edge, I'd call those, possibly, a 7. Comments?

When I look at the pictures, it looks like the plug stays in the green area (8) and does not break into the outer white area (7). Assuming the bull is 10-9-8 the plug is outside the 9 ring, but right up to the edge of the 8 ring, but still in the 8 (green) ring. Hard to really judge worst edge with these pics...

Best edge scored, as the OP has stated in post #4, both shots are definitely 10's, deep 10's, but 10's none the less. And yes, if I were scoring, I would have plugged them both.

Larry,
Look at the pic that shows the numbers. The small light line circle in the middle is the ten ring. 'IF' where the edge of the white meets the heavy green line is the nine ring, and 'IF' where the heavy green line meets the white is the eight ring, then worst edged scored, they would be 7's The one pic that shows the back of the plug on the heavy green line is definitely cutting the ring, making it a seven. I am not familiar with what card that is, but I'm glad we don't shoot it!

It's clearly best edge, or the pics of the plugged targets are useless and it would seem intentionally so, unless best edge was the intention. Again, best edge "appears" to be the intention.

This is the plug. IMG_1811.JPG

GUS...It will become clear when you consider that the hole in the paper was caused by a slug that was considerably smaller than the plug. Any target that is scored best edge the plug is your best friend.

I doubt that the slug was smaller than the plug; probably the hole is smaller than the slug, due to "paper magic." :)
"Paper magic"...I like it! Lol! Yes, virtually every hole will measure smaller than bullet diameter by a bit and many people read the size and shape of the hole as part of their tuning..or reading tune.
