Fox hunting pics from today

"It'll never work!"
Went to the range this a.m. to recheck the zero on my 22BR as I had switched scopes. Typical of Stan Ware's work, the first shot after bore sighting was within 1" of p.o.a. at 100 yds. A couple of clicks, a few rounds and it was set with a 200 yd. zero. A tidy three shot .466 at 200 to double check and confirm and it was good to go.

Temps got to the high 20's and a slight NW wind from 8-12 made for crystal clear glassing conditions. Saw this fox curled up tight but there was nobody home at the farm place to get permission from, so I left him/her for another day. From the fenceline, go three fence posts in from the left and look halfway up the showy slope. The den is about 12-15 feet to the rt, so situations like this call for head shots. Red fox are small, fragile animals with a knack for using their last dying breath to get into their dens.

Nothing came home with me today but it was a good day hunting nonetheless. Saw another healthy looking fox and a nicely furred coyote as well. The red fox population took a beating over the past years as the coyote numbers exploded. Sarcoptic mange (natures way of managing excess predator numbers) has brought the coyote numbers down and the red fox numbers seem to be rising a bit.

Good shootin'. -Al
