Case Lube Survey

Just wondering how most people lube cases before FL sizing.

I measure the headspace of my cases before and after FL sizing. Lately, that figure is actually longer after FL sizing and I notice a lot of pull...especially when the ball comes back through the neck and so I am wondering if l am actually lengthening the headspace figure a little when the neck is re-sized by the ball. I used to use Midway spray lube years ago and never noticed much pull so I think that I must be doing something wrong now.

The ball is stretching your cases. Take the ball out.
Case lube is Royal Case & Die Lube. Stays soft even in cold temps. A little bit goes a long way. And smells good.
Thanks! .....Should I use an expander die after that?

I like Imperial sizing die wax. One of the reloading companies bought them out - Redding(?) so it may be under that name now. I agree with zippy06 on the ball.

Most BR shooters use a bushing sizing die rather than one with a ball expander. Even with that some cases will lengthen with repeated shooting and may need occasional trimming.

Also, if you're measuring fired cases with the primers in...that can add .001-.002 to your measurement. -Al
I looked at my measuring device.....it has a hole in it in the base so that the primer cannot interfere with the measurement. I readjusted my sizing die and I am now getting 1 to 2 thou, sometimes 3, under what my chamber measures....don't know if that is an acceptable variation.....I would think that it would be the same every time.

Do you have to turn the necks when you use bushing dies?
Turning necks was to get a consistent thickness. 10 yrs ago most BR shooters used a 6PPC .262 neck. I still do as my stuff is still set up that way. Brass today is very high quality. Some BR shooters went to a "no turn neck". I hear Alpha brass is very good. Call Pat at PMA Tool.
