Canadians

Started back with the attack on NY, and the beginnings of Homeland Security.
Here in Erie Pa, we had bus loads of Canadians coming to shop, skipping NY.
No tax's on clothes, and way cheaper in overall pricing at our large area of
shopping centers.......Crossing the border became a bit of a hassle. Passports
were now needed, not to mention having a gun of any type in a vehicle. Even
the boats crossing over Lake Erie to visit have dropped to a trickle. I've lived
here all my life and hardly ever seen any Border Patrol. Now I just about see
one of there vehicles every day......Then there is the Trump thing. Life gets more
complicated every day and there is consequences......On another note.....With the
current NY gun laws, I myself hate crossing over into NY with a firearm. It's a
shortcut, crossing the corner of the state for me to get to another shoot in Pa.
Or I go 25 miles out of my way to stay in Pa......A Canadian has so many more
hoops to jump now, just finds it not worth it.

The reality is that a number of the BR shooters in Eastern Canada have passed away or don't travel much at all anymore. Crossing the border is not that big of a deal provided you engage the permit process with the ATF before showing up at the border. Canada will have 13 shooters at the WBC in St. Louis this year, and we have strong representation at the bigger shoots. The cost to travel is so high now it forces us to be more selective in what shoots to attend and how frequently you are in the USA.

Yea. what Rick said. Prolly being picky on matches to attend. 13 shooters for the WBC. Wow!

What Rick said is certainly correct. Crossing the border is not a big deal with the correct papers. The real killer is the currency exchange; we pay about a 40% upcharge to buy American money. I had planned to attend Kane but appointments with 2 medical specialists came available on the Thursday and Friday prior to the shoot so I had to cancel at Kane. Bill Mitchell is in the middle of building a new shop on his property so he was unable to attend as well and, of course, you all know Rob is no longer with us. That's 3 of us that would normally be at Kane. I can't speak for any of the other Ontario shooters who have attended in the past. I apologize to Steve for missing the shoot and I can guarantee Bill and I will be there next year.

Missed you Peter. Will you be able to make it to Holton for the Regionals?

Hi Brian. Yes, I will be at the Regionals for all 4 guns. Bill is going to be there for Saturday/Sunday. See you there if I don't see you before then at Camillus.
Hi Tim. I will be going to St Louis for the NBRSA Nats but I am not on Team Canada for the Worlds. Glad your getting better.

I live about 85 miles from the NB border. We see fewer canadian cars this year. A 28% hit on their already weak dollar is probably the main reason. Then there is the backlash over this 51st state publicity. Frankly Canada is much too liberal for my state, so who wants them? If they were ever to loose (from their confederation) Saskatchewan, Alberta and/or Manitoba....goodby Canada. They are squeezing these provinces, especially Manitoba, to fund the deficits of several others. Not a sustainable situation.
