Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters held the first half of the annual Bob Dorton Memorial 4-Gun, which is held every year over to honor the memory of one of the truly great guys in our sport. Bob was one of the founding members of our club, and there isn't much on Range 11 that doesn't have his fingerprints all over it!
We shot SP/LV this weekend, 100 yards on Saturday & 200 on Sunday. Saturday morning started off with mild somewhat switchy conditions which picked up as the morning went on.
We started with Sporter 100 with Greg Wilson throwing down a nice .2544 agg to run away with the yardage, Dan Lutke a distant 2nd with a .3102, and Roy Luchini 3rd at .3484. Greg had small group with a .124 just edging out Dan's .127.
We moved on to the LV 100 with Steve Epstein returning to form with a .3280 agg for the win, followed by Jeff Rodriguez shooting a worn out barrel
with a .3366, I was 3rd at .3588. Small group was Steve's .220, aggs were showing why the Ione Triangle has such tough conditions.
Sunday at 200 was all about the mirage! Most of the guys were having a hard time seeing bullet holes, one of those days where if the blob is getting darker your probably good! Condition were mainly out of the SW with enough letoffs to frustrate the most patient! I gave up watching the flags and just shot the mirage flow.
We started the morning with LV 200 with Jeff (worn out barrel) Rodriguez shooting the only other agg of the weekend in the 2's
with a nice .2763 blowing away my .3282 for 2nd, Roy Luchini a distant 3rd at .3953.
Sporter 200 was more of the same, I shot 6 sighters before I could see my shots, crowd favorite Michael Taner figured it out to the tune of a .4108 agg, I took 2nd with a .4241, Jeff 3rd with a .4424. (Did I mention the conditions were tough?).
The Sporter Grand was won by Greg with a .3392, Dan 2nd with a .3919, Michael 3rd with a .4143 just edging out Jeff who had a .4145.
The LV Grand was won by Jeff with a nice .3065, easily outdistancing my .3435 for 2nd, Steve Epstein 3rd at .3723.
2-Gun was won by Greg with a .3414 agg, Jeff 2nd at .3605 (only 2 aggs in the 3's), Dan 3rd at .4013.
Thanks to Jeff & Roy for running targets, and everyone's help with the setup & teardown. The e-backers worked well all weekend, with only 1 "ghost" shot and 1 missed shot, both verified on targets.
Hope to see everyone next month for the HV/UNL half of the 4-gun.
