A good velocity?

Interestingly -- well, to me -- is that the speed of the rotation of the earth (at the equator) is 1,525.9 fps. I predict that ammunition with this velocity will be esp. accurate, esp. when fired on an east-facing range. The stars want it that way. (As long as the bullet stays above the transonic region at the target.)

Or maybe you have to calculate the speed at your latitude for the best tune?;)

I fully realize that I have not
succeeded in answering all of your
questions.

Indeed, I feel I have not answered
any of them completely. The
answers I have found only serve to
raise a whole new set of questions,
which only lead to more problems,
some of which we weren't even
aware were problems.

To sum it all up...In some ways I
feel we are confused as ever, but I
believe we are confused on a
higher level, and about more
important things.

Do you mean a west facing range?
I don't think so; I'm pretty bad with "left" and "right," but usually pretty good with "east" & "west."

So, if you fired east, one way of looking at the situation would be the bullet stays still, and the target comes along & hits it, right?

Ummm, well, no...... on several levels. On "your" level, ie "what you mean," you just gotta' set there with your cuppa' cawffee and watch the sun come "UP" (out here that happens in the east) to realize that you're "rolling over the top, towards the sun"..........

Oh, yeah, I see it now. Besides, everyone knows the only way to have a range point in the northern hemisphere is north... lessen you can set everything up on a lazy susan. Great solution for a fishtailing headwind, too.

Things don't usually get this "deep" until around February or so. Does this mean it's going to be a looonnnggg Winter?

If it were outside....put a big vane on it and have a continuous tail wind. Hey wait a minute! No way! You would have to learn how to hold for the rotation...maybe put a single flag right in the middle..no, that wouldn't work...drugs maybe would.

If it were inside, it wouldn't have to to rotate. On the other hand, I seem to remember there was a blimp hanger in New Jersey during WWII that was so big it could rain inside. Means weather might still be a problem. As controlling the weather is getting to be a big issue, maybe we could get research funding (No political insinuations, please).

As to outside -- if we all put our minds to it, we can probably solve the the rotation problems...

Well guys, Doesen't the first bullet on paper put the all that into prospective, then you just adjust from there? Thats why I think people have such a hard time getting there rifle to shoot, there to much into this math thing, the world isn't spinning any fast than it has since I was born, and that was a long time ago! told a guy at or shooting school that had one of those hand held calulators, by the time he got things figured out on the second shot I could blow it out of his hand at 1000 yards. And Charles I would love to hear your thoughts on Globle warming! Had to get in on this.
