Post AZBRS - Oct 2017 LV-HV Club Match Results

The Arizona Bench Rest Shooters held a Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint 2-Gun Club Match on October 7-8, 2017. We had a huge turnout considering this is the first match of the season, with 30 shooters in total. We saw a few faces we hadnít seen in a while come out to this match, and it was great to see them.

We were happy to have our friends back out here at the match and enjoying the great Arizona weather we get this time of year. The temperature was perfect, and the wind calm at times and challenging at others. This allowed us to get some good groups, but still have our wind reading skills tested in the grand agg, which to me are good conditions for Ben Avery this time of year.

One face that was missing this year was our good friend Tom Libby. The past few years we have seen a lot of our friends leave us, and I know that when the anthem ended and I did not hear him yell ďPlay Ball!Ē it hit me hard. He was a great source of help over the years to our club, and a dear friend to us all. As a way to remember all of our friends who have left us, we have decided to keep one of Tomís flags at the range. Each match, we place it out on the range for all to see. He, as with many others, will be missed.

On Saturday, we started the day off with a little bit of wind, but that didnít stop Gary Ocock from getting teen sized groups in 4 out of 5 matches that morning. He took the Light Varmint 100 yard agg with a 0.2084. Moving into the afternoon, we had similar conditions. Some good points, and at other times challenging. Gene Deloney took the Heavy Varmint 100 yard agg with a 0.2182.

On Sunday morning, the wind was completely calm as we started shooting, but by the last match, the wind had picked up quite bit. This allowed Walt to come ahead in the end and take the Heavy Varmint 200 yard agg with a 0.2601. After lunch, some wind continued throughout the day, but we still had a good amount of groups out there. Dan Sutton took first in the end of the Light Varmint 200 yard agg with a 0.2773.

For the Light Varmint grand agg, Bob Brackney came in third with a 0.2849, with Dan Sutton in second with a 0.2643, and Gary Ocock in first with a 0.2536. In the Heavy Varmint grand agg, Lester Bruno took third with a 0.2815, Chuck Miller took second with a 0.2751, and Larry White took first with a good lead at 0.2519.

When all was said and done, Lester Bruno took third in the 2-gun with a 0.2849, with Bob Brackkney in second at 0.2839, and Dan Sutton in first place with a 0.2756.

Once again, thank you all for coming out to this first match of our season. We are glad to see such good attendance for our first match and hope that each of our matches this season see this kind of growth.

    Jim,

Added .pdf version of the results and I also added a link to our flickr page so that you can view pictures from the match. Let me know if you have any other questions.
