    Lube for Shadetree top?

I picked up a used Shadtree rest top. I tore it appart to fit a different sized post and the internals needed to be cleaned since there was some dirt inside. The lube that was inside was a silver color, almost looked like anti seize. Well, it was pretty dry. What lubes out there work well for the internals?

I assume the one I have is an older top since there were not any supporting springs inside. Is this a revise that I can get upgraded?

To expand on John's reply, there are instructions on the Shadetree website: Rest Top

Mine also had what appeared to be anti-seize as a lubricant. After a few years, the movement became increasingly sticky so I disassembled and cleaned everything and used wheel bearing grease when reassembling it. That solved the stickyness problem and I think the movement is smoother than when new.

I use teflon fluoropolymer grease. It's manufactured by "Finish Line" and can be found at bicycle shops. I'm a bike rider and I use this on my wheel hubs. I have a Shadetree top and read Butch's instructions. He recomends a synthetic lubricant.

Thanks for being specific..."synthetic cream lubricant" is pretty general. I'll see if I can find any local.

Also, there is what appears to be 2 strips of tape on one of the internal plates. What type of tape is this?

That would be a good question for Butch Lambert. Maybe he will see this thread soon. By the look of it, I'd guess it's UHMW polyethelene.

Just back from a match in Arkansas. Use either UHMW or teflon stock tape. Only replace if necessary. We like synthetic bicycle wheel bearing grease. Anti seize is gritty.

I see no reason to worry about the thickness. We use .005".

Butch...thanks for taking the time to answer the questions! I have one more....what size are the cap screws used to fasten the bag? I need 1/4" longer screws.
