    30/30 150 gr loads

now this is pretty far in left field for this site but...
    i own a win '94 30-30 from 1965. 20"
    it hangs over the fireplace.
in its lifetime it has had less then 300 rds thru it.
i was given 300 plus rem 150 core lock rn 30-30 bullets with a crimp groove and would like to work up a decent load.
was looking for input from those with experience with this round/bullet weight.
yes i will have to tune for my rifle , but no need to reinvent the wheel.
    thanks

    mike,
I'd try H322 or Varget. Both are common powders among benchresters & both should give decent accuracy with the 150's. Varget should give you a tad bit more velocity then the H322. One word of caution.......if the noses of the 150's you have are smaller then the primer, do not use them in the magazine because of the possibility of detonation. If you load singlely you should be fine.

3031 or 4064, not necessarily in that order.

After the third firing of the brass, trash it.

Do a search on Benchrest.com for .30-30 and you will find out just how well this cartridge can shoot.

Of course the rifle won't look quite like yours ......

Mike just for curiosity sake....weigh your brass just to see how much difference there is.

    Mike:
Do use the intended Ball for the 30-30 from Winchester of 748.

I would be all for using 125g bullets and faster powder. Fast 125g bullets will kill anything a 150 will, no problem.

yeah but the 150's were free..the only reason i am doing this....was working on cast bullet loads till the 150's were given to me.
ohh the the bullets are not much in quality..it appears i will have to weight sort them also...
so much for a simple load work up.
and how goes your 30-30 br rifle ??
