So sorry to read this news today.

Gene was a great guy, I had the pleasure of meeting him at the last few WBCs, he was so kind and a nice guy.

We will miss him, our thoughts go out to his family at this time.

    Sad!!!

I KNOW a lot of my friends did not like / respect Gene. But i did. He always treated me with respect and shared info / his knowledge with me as a wanna be bench rest shooter. I appreciated his conservative view on our world as he expressed on fakebook and other venues. rest in peace my friend! See you soon! God bless and God look over your family!!! Jim Casey

Gene and I go back more than 20 years. I can't count the number of Matches in which we competed against each other. Aside from Pat Byrne, Gene was the best 200 yard competitor I knew. I guess you could say he was one of the shooters I paid a lot of attention to.

    We had our differences.

This has left me stunned. I'm still trying to get a handle on it. My wife and I both had Covid, got through it with no ill affects. I thought it was no big deal.

Now this. I guess reality has a way of waking us all up.

May Gene Rest In Peace. May is family find comfort in their faith. May we all remember a good friend.

    There Are No Words....

My mother would tell me…”God writes straight with a crooked pen"… when something in my world didn't make sense...

Once again, way too soon… another one of our great friends and a true Benchrest icon… shockingly and suddenly gone…

It seems there are more and more postings of another one of our great friends passing on this Competition forum page, sadly, we now add Gene’s name to this lengthening list we all wish would simply just stop. Not to be. That damn crooked pen...

I first met Gene at my first or second Super Shoot in ’98 or ’99. Gene came by in Kelbly’s loading barn and introduced himself to me. He offered me words of encouragement when I struggled and congrats when I would somehow get lucky.

I would be very fortunate to get to know Gene and his wife, Saundra both very well during our time shared together at the worlds in ’11 in France, when he won the 2-Gun and at the worlds ’15 in St. Louis. Gene made winning look easy. Great times with lots and lots of laughs and great memories for sure.

It was my pleasure serve as the Eastern Region Director under Gene’s stewardship as our past NBRSA President. Gene loved the NBRSA and all of his many friends.

His shooting accomplishments were immense. HOF member, multiple Super Shoot 2-Gun winner, world champion, world record holder…. Gene had a shooting resume few will ever match and all will envy.

More than all his numerous accolades, Gene was a great friend to many shooters, not only in the U.S, but around the world. We were all lucky to have known him.

Would ask you to please keep Gene, Saundra and his family in all your daily prayers....

    Jack Neary

    NBRSA, President

Kinds words there Jack, hope all is well... Pat B. hope all is well with you too. I know you guys were pretty tight.... hadn’t spoke to Gene in some years however I recall his love for Bass fishing. Back when I was shooting we’d make it a point to share the “fish porn” pictures from the fresh and saltwater sides and swap some story telling. RIP Gene
