The "Half Million Dollar Bull" was shot during archery season, with a rifle.... but it has been ratified this month as an official record.
Not nearly as big news IMO as a certain famous archery hunter who set new world records TWICE in successive years on public land, using Fair Chase procedure not his checkbook.

Al,
Actually, this bull was shot with the Governors tag a little ways south of where I live and it was shot after our limited entry season closed. There were several other hunters who got shots at it with arrows and muzzleloaders but nobody connected until the end of September. It was shot by a rich guy who hired one of our infamous guides and his twenty some odd drones who scout for him and baby sit the elk and then they basically "gang bang" it with the help of walkie-talkies and a whole crew of guys. Notice how many "helpers" are in the photo.
The only thing impressive about this bull is his size. The way he died was anything but impressive--it ought to be illegal. And in fact, in Montana and some other states, walkie-talkie gang hunting IS illegal. Utah has not woke up to this idea yet.
Is what we do best, see something beautiful, kill it, is a record. Shooting an animal at 50 yards with a 300 ultra stw magnum is a great accomplishment! Congratulations!
