Windflag-icator

I am at the proof of concept stage right now. The crossbar on the rigid tail needs to be aerodynamically neutral.

This flag employs a similar hinged swinging member.

Looks interesting

Having all one's toys in one place. Perhaps some small Dixie Cups liKe those on a small Probe instead of the flat plate might get more wind.

Pete,

tje Dixie cup on a Probe is because the probe does not turn into the wind. The cup gives a uniform face to the wind, no mater which way it is blowing. The Jewell flag always turns into the wind, since it is first a windflag. That allows the flat plate to be acted on directly. The Probe gives an indirect read of wind effect. The Jewell gives a direct read. Same thing, different manner

My thinking was

I see now. I was thinking a round indicator would pick up light winds from an angle that doesn't move the flag

I will probably swap all my flags over to the rigid tail. After watching the ribbon and the rigid tail all day I like the rigid tail better. I am anxious get out to the range and see how they look out to 100 and 200 yds. I will need to keep the rigid tails identical between all the flags so they respond the same.

The rigid tail may make the flag 'hunt' a little. Just have to try them out to see if it is an issue or not at longer distances from the eye.

Most likely only the 2nd and 3rd flag can effective use the windindicator. Now for Airgun I will use the indicator on all the flags.

I made the rigid tail out of 3mm Depron foam which is strong enough, good flexibility so it can withstand some abuse and it's nearly weightless.

I have my flags set up with ball bearing pivots and the CG is about 1 inch behind the pivot. I designed the vane to have a relatively high aspect ratio. They show everything.
