Any flags and stands that work for point blank will work for long range as well. Since most 600 and 1000 yard ranges will have a lot of uneven terrain between benches and targets, a couple of stands that can be adjusted way up there will come in handy.
I ordered flags a few weeks ago and they just came in. His turn around time was amazing and he will custom make anything you want. I shoot 600yds and these flags will be very easy to see regardless of scope power. They are 31" long and 10" wide. He make's short and long range ones. He also makes stands that go up to (if i'm not mistaken) 17 feet. Really good customer service. His name is David Halblom 515-274-5833. Can't wait to try these this sunday at Bridgeville 600yd match. The price is the best i have seen anywhere.
Can you even use flags at a 600 yard match? I have only watched one 600 yard shoot but i didnt think i saw anyone using wind flags. I would think a couple 2 or 3 would be a little bit helpful? Whats the scoop? Lee
Sure can. We shoot at Bridgeville D.E. Our season starts Aug and runs thru March. You need them over there during the winter. There's shooters that produce the same groups, if not better than the guys that shoot in the summer down our way and south.
+10 with PA MT Boy's Post!! Flying Fish Flags are awesome, I bought a set to learn with and I shoot out on the Northern Plains. Top Quality product with great customer service!!
What height stands did you order with your wind flags for shooting at Bridgeville? Also how many do you use? I think it's time I broke down and started using wind flags. I've been able to get away with not using them in the Factory Class, but I'm thinking they are a "must have" in Light and Heavy Gun.
Hey Ken,
Mike Burns makes my wind flag stands, They are more durable than anything on the market. He has also mad an adapter to add poles to go as high sa you want. His number is 570-668-4532. They are stainless steel poles and can take a hit. The stand it self is steel angle iron to help with the deflection if it is hit. If you buy other brands that are telescopic and they take a hit, good luck trying to repair them with out replacement. At bridgeville i put 5 out, just because there is times but not often that one half of the range will go dead for a period of time. If you have anyother questions let me know. inmate22554@yahoo.com
I stumbled upon somthing this winter. First off, I believe that the close flags are going to tell you more than the far flags, simply because wind up close has more effect on windage than does wind at (or near) the target.
I now place a flags at, say 25 and 100 yards. While in shooting position I can see the cernter X in the scope with my right eye and the wind flgs in my left eye WITHOUT MOVING MY PUPIL OR MY HEAD. I simply concentrate on which eye to focus on. I can switch between the mothball and the flags a couple times a second now. Of course, my flags are simply survayors tape on a piece of lath...nothing fancy. It happend as an accident the first time, but I put them up several more times after and got it to work...it's just a lot of running back and forth between the bench and each flag to get them just right.
I also must point out that just because i can see them very clearly, I haven't got a clue how to "read" what they are telling me very clearly.....yet!! I'm just not that smart.
I am thinking of trying it at a match or two this summer, but, I tend to ignore the flags once the comence fire has been given. Once in a while though I have gotten myself to stop or change my hold mid string, but not very often.
