Winchester Varmint Rifle

I need some advice regarding the rebarreling of my mid 1990's vintage Winchester heavy barrel varmint rifle in 220 swift caliber. I have found a new in the box factory barrel replacement however it's in 22.250 caliber. I read that the swift case head diameter is .473 and the 22.250 is .472 - I'm guessing this is not problem - will this be a drop in fit by a gunsmith?

If you want to change to 22-250 caliber the action will work.
However the headspace needs to be set and if it is a classic (pre 64 type) you are going to need a very good gunsmith.
 
Kansasvet - it's not a pre 64 type it's a push feed model - sounds like if I take it to a good gunsmith I should be OK?

Nothing is ever as easy as "drop in" sounds.
A gunsmith can fit it for you and your cost will depend on a few things like, if you want the action trued or if you just want to screw it in and see if the headspace is correct (some people get lucky in that respect)
Call a gunsmith that has a good reputation and ask about it, all he can do is say no.
My general feeling is that if you are going to the expense to put in a new barrel "correctly" it is not that much more expensive to use a good custom barrel.
 
Do you reload? Open it up ! Go for the gusto.

Open that bad boy up to 22-250AI. I get 300FPS above a standard 22-250.
