What powder and what carge for 6mm br

I shoot a 6mm Nbr whit a 29" barrel 1/8 twist, got 3 weeks to next 500m match and need tips on lodes and so on.
Only got 3 bullet types to play whit; 88 grs Berger HBFB, 105grs Lapua scenar and 107grs Sierra mk.
Powders; N-540, N-140, N-150 (N-133) and norma 201, 204 and MRP
I shoot BR whit a Kodiak action
Lapua brass

Well,,,mine ...likes Rx-15...but of the powders you have to use...I wuld use aprox 1 gr. less than whatever gives you stiky bolt lift of N-540...Roger
 
Around 30.7 grs of vv n-150/sierra 107 for my rifle. Work up to this as I have a .134 free bore and can pack in more. 31.8 grs of n150 gives sticky bolt. .015 into the lands, rem 700 action.....chris
 
Powder for LR 6mmBR

Just got my latest 6mmBR - a Savage Model 12 LRPV with trued action and Krieger barrel 28" 1:8 twist MTU contour. I have found that so far I get the best velocity with VV550 at 32 grains with a SMK 107 seated .010" into the lands. Accuracy has been great at 100 yards, but as it is so new, I ahve not shot it further out. I like this powder better than Varget in the 6mmBR.

I have a 600 yard match this weekend and will report on what happens as this will be the load I will be shooting.

BTW, my wife's gun likes VV550 loaded at 30.5 grains with the same bullet and seating. I will be increasing her powder charge after the match and see what happens.

For your neck of the woods....N540 was great in mine... my favorite is Rl 15 by far then Varget however Varget would be my last choice...

Would be the Sierra 107 and 540 powder given your choices.If you can get some Varget it makes sense to atleast try it out.Last good group I saw shot with Varget and my own two eyes was 0.5823 inches at 600 yards by Bob Hoppe.I haven't seen or heard of anything smaller.

Speeds with VV550

Chris, I am getting 2753 with 31.5 grains and 2785 fps with 32.0 grains of VV550 and the 107 grain Sierra MatchKing with accuracy in the .3's for 5 shots at 100 yards with no flags.

load Lapua brass, 105 VLD or 108 grain Berger BT .015 into the lands on top of 30.5 grains of Varget with a CCI 450 primer.

If this isn't the best load you've ever shot throw the barrel away and start over!

Were at the range yesterday. Got to loades for the lapua 105grs that seem to be oki. Will worke more on them. One where whit N-150 and the other whit N-540. Ust under 1/5" at 100m lot of wind, sun and snow made tings hard.
But had som prob whit the 88grs Berger hbfb. Is this a bullet hatd to get to worke well?

I've used the 88g FB Berger in 2 8 twist barrels. They are easier to get to shoot than the boat tail VLD's from my experience. The 88FB does have a VLD point (15 ogive nose) but jam it about 0.015 past just touching unless you hae a long freebore. About 0.150" freebore is what I use.
 
Caine, could you share your n-150 data? I shoot that alot over here and would like to compare it to mine..... thanks chris
 
Well this weekend im going to the 500m match. Not redy at all, but not more i can do :eek:
Do to prob to get good bullets over here and new probs whit US customs i did not get the bullets i orderd i time.
So i have played whit Lapua scenars and N-150 and N540
Got almost the same results on 100m but alredy at 200 yards there were a big difrense. The N-150 opend up to twice the size as N-540
Using 30,5grs N-540 and seeting bullets ust kissing the lads. The groops at 100m avriged at 0,25inc
Todays condisjons where more then good, ust 1m/s wind so shood be able to get better groops then this, but all of them where about the same sice.
At 300yards i shoot 3 groops and my girlfrend one mine where all about 1 inc hers were 0,75 inch.
So she dos not get to play whit that gun agen :p EVER ;)

Eny last minut adwise?

Was that 5.823 inches or .5823 inches? How many shots were in the group and what were the conditions?

The N-540 scenar lodes worked fine, ust me that fu... up. NEVER cange gear in/under a match!
My best groop had a higth spred under an inc, and was ust over 2 inc wide. 10 shoots

sounds like you are gettin the tune-up pretty well done on your rifle...OBTW ...did the tall blonde out shoot you with your own gun???....that is what usually happens...ahahahah.......Roger
