Hi
I just saw the unit that Hornady came out with and was thinking of trying it and would appreciate if someone could let me know what brew there using ,im looking for something simple i can make myself at home,no flamable or toxic stuff, i intend trying this to clean/degrease cores & bullets without having to expose myself by using dangerous solutions.
Thanks Remy:)

I use a two-step process based on information I distilled from teh 6mmbr articles and threads.

Read the last post in this thread:

http://www.accurateshooter.com/forum/index.php/topic,1612398.30.html

The cases come out very, very clean with minimum hassle.

Not mentioned there is that I have been removing the STP/Mobil-1 mixture used for neck turning lube, I soak the cases in mineral spirits for 45 minutes or longer, agitating them occasionally, before the ultrasonic process. If you're not removing that kind of stuff, I don't think you need to use the mineral spirits step.

YMMV,

A Hornady technician told me a couple days ago it's a Citrus base. "It won't shine up your brass, just clean them," he said. Their number by the way is 800-338-3220 in case you're looking for more details. Art :)

P.S. Jason Baney at 6mmBR.com has an article on tests that he performed to find a "Clean and Shiny" recipe. It's here: http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html

The Citronox and Dawn recipe that I posted earlier will shine the HECK out of cases. I got the Citronox idea from a followup comment by Jason to his article.

You get a gallon of it for $40 or something. You use it 1/4 teaspoon at a time. That gallon will last till the cows come home.

Which ultrasonic unit is the best and least costly? I'm not sure those terms go together. ;)

There's all kinds of imported stuff out there that may or may not work, I don't know because I haven't used them. L&R and Branson are two good names. There are others as well. You should be able to go to a manufactures website to review specs. If they don't have a website, I'd be leary. You will want a basket of some sort to keep the brass or container off the bottom of the tank. Dumping them in the main tanks isn't supposed to be good for the cyrstals. I've got three different "made in USA" tanks of various origins and they all work well. Dug an old L&R out or a dumpster and fixed the oscillator circuit, got a little one? at a garage sale for $15, and paid $80 for a gallon sized one on ebay from a clearance house. They are out there if you look.

Greg has the idea, ebay and hit up Dentists, Watch Repair shops, Jewelry stores etc....they all use an Ultrasonic of some kind, and may have an older model setting around.

I didn't buy by price, but one that could do it all, from thousands of .223/5.56 to 50 BMG, so mine is large (3 gal.) and expensive, and I can reason it's paid for it's self as I see the ads for UC in the $18-$20/100 + shipping.
