Steve-o:
It's been my experience with these .30's that a 'lot' (however you define that) of jam widens the tune window and makes tuning with the powder both repeatable and reliable.
I'll plead guilty to not really working on a 'jumping' tuneup. It's possible that a 'lot' (oooh...there's that word, again
) of jump combined with snug neck clearance and light neck tension could also give great results.
As far as a tuner goes, I wouldn't jump to that right away. Get a good baseline with a 'normal' setup and go from there. That way you always have a proven setup to go back to if you need to regroup. Might be a pun, there...
I just got back from the range. I was all set up and ready go by 7:00 and had beautiful conditions for an hour and a half. It's picking up from the North now, though. Since you're 35 miles South of me, you can probably step outside in a few minutes and get a whiff of 4198.
Steve, I would seriously consider plopping the 36X on your gun and doing your load work at 200. Lots of things fall into place, then. -Al
