Tomball Gun Club Club Matches Resume Feb 6

It's getting pretty close to the new Season for the Tomball Gun Club's Club Matches. The first one is Sunday, Feb 6.

As a reminder, we shoot a 100 yard agg for score, we will be using the new NBRSA guidelines for Varmint for Score.

Three classes: Factory, Modified, and Benchrest. Awards for top three in each class.

We had a great attendance last year for all five Matches, come on out and have a good time.
Entry is $15, gates will open at 6:00, we start shooting promptly at 9:00, when we will have a warmup, followed by five record Matches.

Any questions, just ask here, or call me on my cell, (832) 689-4157. I would prefer you ask here.

"we will be using the new NBRSA guidelines for Varmint for Score." what will be diffrent if anything

The only thing I can see is the tie breaker. It used to be the Creedmore, it will now be the NBRSA "most wipeouts". If two shooters have an equal score and X count, the shooter with the highest number of wipeouts will be awarded the higher position.........jackie

At this time, yes. It will be the June Match.

The only difference is I will probably get a target crew so shooters do not have to trek all the way to the 200 yard line and back. ..........jackie

Jackie,
I am planning to come down to the Tomball club match on Feb. 6.It will be my first short range match of any sort.I have a 30 br that I believe will qualify as 13.5 pounds but my real question has to do witrh another gun. I have a switch barrel gun that has a 30 br barrel but it is probably an 18 pound gun on the bathroom scales.I am planning to let my brother shoot this gun in the match if there is a category in which he can shoot. Is there a limit on gun weight in the club matches?
Thanks,Darrel Martin

Darrel, I am not Jackie but:

The classes at Tomball are Factory, Modified, and Benchrest. Benchrest is defined as any legal firearm I believe. Most of the rifles will be 13.5 lb legal HV rifles but there will be some that are heavier than that.
You will have a good time at Tomball.
See you Tomorrow in Utopia.

Joe

Thanks Joe, Mike and I will head down tomorrow afternoon.Looking forward to the match. Darrel

It's been a while since I've logged on...

sorry to ask what everyone seems to know, but what are the abbreviations at the end of the matches. And specifically where is the Lake Charles match, I'm a resident there and would love to see how my stock Howa does... as well as bring my relatives... They are avid shooters.
Would we have to be in a "club" or pay dues to enjoy this outing? Sorry for the simple questions...

I was just about to post the same question. I'll be making the trek to Lake Charles from houston and was wondering about directions as well.

Thanks for the clarification!

Open to public? Can I tag along? I Wonder if my Howa Axiom is too heavy for stock class minus bipod...

Robierto, These matches at Lake Charles are NBRSA (National Benchrest Shooters Association) matches. To shoot them, and be qualified to set records, etc., you need to belong to the NBRSA. You can join there at the match. I believe the rules state that you can shoot your first match free.
At Lake Charles, they are listed as shooting VFS and HTR classes. The VFS class is defined as any Heavy Varmint Benchrest rifle weighing 13.5 pounds or less.
The Hunter class rifle is defined as:
10 pounds or less
max 2.5 inch wide forearm.
.6mm or larger caliber
Cartrige must hold as much powder at a .30/30 cartridge.
Scope must be maximum 6 power.
Action must have a magazine cutout in the bottom.
They will be shooting a score target with six bulls on it. The bottom right is the sighter bull and you may shoot at it as many times as you wish. The other five are record bulls and you shoot one shot at each for score. At 100 yards, the ten ring is .5 inch and the X dot is 1/16th inch.
Visitors are certainly welcome and I feel sure someone there will spend time talking to you and you will have a good time and learn a bunch. I would probably go there and watch one time before I took a factory rifle to shoot. There is no separate factory class.
The Tomball club match is NOT a registered match and Jackie does hold different classes for factory, modified, and Benchrest rifles. That would be a good place to bring your Howa and shoot, have a good time, and learn a bunch. If you would like directions getting there, Vic or Jackie will post them for you. The first club match this year will be Feb 6.

Thanks a lot Joe. I will make arrangements to attend Feb 6th if I can get a location. As far as joining the ass. I would like to. I'm a sponge so I'm looking fwd to learning all I can. Thanks again for the help.

Robierto, I run the Tomball Gun Club "Club Matches".

I run the matches as close to a real Benchrest Match as possible, but we do keep it more casula, and we do have three classes to facilitate participation of shooters who want to shoot in a Competition, but want a more informal atmosphere.

We shoot Score, the standard 100 yard Registered Score Target. You will shoot five targets, each target has five 'bullseyes". You will laso get to shoot a warmup to confirm your site in.

The Tomball Gun Club is located on Zion Road just North of Tomball. Tell me which way you are coming from, and I will tell you the best way to get there.........jackie

I'm in S.E. Texas right now, but I live in S.W. La. Thanks alot. I'm really interested in getting on board.

BE CAREFUL!!!! BE VERY CARFEFUL!!!! It's very bad for your health to shoot down there. Joe Duke invited me to Tomball to shoot in Feb 2008, and I have been diagnosed with "gotta-shoot-allthetime-itous". Ever since that first time, I have been hooked. 2 benchguns later, I'm trying to figure out how to afford a 3rd!!!!
