10th Annual Purple Haze
Lands End Benchrest Shooters

Our tenth anniversary Haze was another great event. If you weren’t there you missed a good one. To pay tribute to our loyal shooters there were no match fees at this shoot. We started Saturday morning off with a shooters meeting. It was decided that this match would be unregistered so that non-members Rodney Brown and Larry White could participate. 38 shooters got underway with breezy and cool conditions. Right out of the box there were several decided to get started shooting in the ones. On the fourth record Kelly Ellis shot a very nice .087 which took the lizard for the yardage. The end of the morning found Dan Dowling in 1st place with a respectable .2190 agg. Rodney Brown was right there in 2nd with a .2338 and Dean Parker right on Rods heals with a .2428 agg.
We had our usual excellent grub for lunch. With the fireworks in NBRSA mother nature was not to be outdone and heavy rains and wind followed. We had about a two hour delay and shooting continued with a very soggy 200 yard match. Even with conditions that we had shooters were doing well and that old sneaky snake Larry White showed us up and shot a very nice .228 which was lizard worthy. Larry White also wound up in 1st place with a stellar .2268. Behind Larry was Rodney Brown in 2nd with a .2505 and Wayne Christian hung there with a .2693 for third
Saturday’s light varmint finished up this way. Rodney Brown won the day with a .2422 Larry White was right behind with a .2504 for second and that old grump Dan Dowling was in the fray with a .2562 for third.
Saturday evening was our big dinner and as usual the food was great. If you didn’t make the dinner, to bad ya missed it.
Sunday morning was a bit cloudy and cool but the competition was still stiff. We started the Heavy Varmint 200. On the third record Leon Noel charged in and took the lizard with a very respectable .2040. By mid morning the agg. Sorted out like this Rodney Brown was 1st with a very nice .2112, Paul Snow locked in 2nd place with a .2388 and not to be left out was Larry White with a .2561 for 3rd. Midday once again found us with more great chow and after lunch we went to work for the Heavy Varmint 100. Right off the bat the little targets started showing up. Paul Snow decided he owned the lizard with a little. 0850 and at the end of the yardage Paul Snow owned it with a spectacular .1606. Rodney Brown was right behind with a .1730 and big Bud Schaller was in the mix with a .2098 for 3rd.
The Heavy Varmint Grand sorted this way. Rodney Brown won Sunday with a sweet .1921 agg. On his heals was Paul Snow also with a teen agg of .1997 for second and big Bud Schaller was 3rd with a .2448.
For the weekend our winner was guess who Rodney Brown with a hot .2171. The old sneaky snake Larry White was 2nd with a .2517 and Paul Snow rounded out the field with a .2721 for 3rd.
Another great year of competition ended this way the three gun was one by not Tom Steiner but by the sneaky snake Larry White with a .2853. Dan Dowling was in there swinging with a .3068 for 2nd and out of the mist Joe Olas was third with a .3191. The four gun was settled this way, Larry White was the overall champion with a .2951. Joe Olas hung in there big time for a second place with a .3498 and Tom Steiner came in out of the cold for 3rd with a .3569,,,,,,whaaaa!
Well there ya have it. A year of great shoots rolled into thin pages here. Great people make for great competition and good times and good friends. We are all looking forward to another fantastic year of shooting sports. We will see you all next year.
