So, the Texas State VFS Championship is over - a well fought event. Ryan started the morning using his 30 like a club on everyone – NO MERCY! As he pounded out his 250 - 22X. Twelve other good souls however would not give up so easily and managed to pull a 250 to remain in striking distance. As we all know the Texas afternoon and 200 yards will extract its pound of flesh for the wind Gods!
And, so it begins with each shooter and bench slowly being consumed as a well shot X is moved into the 9 or even 8 ring with the small flip of a tail. No apologies were provided as competitors dragged back to the loading area, eyes down cast, and the cleaning rods bowing as its rammed home again and again looked like a tree being sawed into. Fear prevented most from asking the simple question “how did it go that time?” knowing full well Dr. Tim could blow any minute! To the end, several shooters you know within their heart of hearts were hoping, just drop one point, one small mistake is all that’s needed to swing the balance of things.
But it was not to be as Ralph Stewart completed the 200 yards clean and for the second year was crowned Texas State VFS Champion.
Good job to all the winners and of course a great big thanks to everyone who took the time and effort to support the Denton Club - I appreciate all you guys. Look forward to seeing you for the GCR Jun. 8th & 9th (SP & LV).
