Looks like the first ever IBS Score Shoot in Texas was well attended.

Congratulations to Mike Stinnett and my old (perhaps I should have said longtime ) Friend Bill W.

I am assuming Jackie either had equipment problems or ended up helping out more than he had originally planned.

Yeh, Dick

I was going along real good Sat morning at 100, had only dropped one X after 3 matches, (in 2d), shot three wipeouts in Match four, then the rifle went 'click" on the 4th bullys eye. I had to remove the bolt, only to dump about 30 grns of 4198 in the action. Turns out I had put a primer in backwards.

I can't ever remember having to take a loaded round out of this 30 BR, I did not expect the bullet to stay in the lands, as I shoot it 'just touching'. I rushed back to the loading area, used a cleaning rod to remove the stuck bullet, and tried my best to get the powder out. When I got back to the line, I had less than a minute, could not get a round to go in, tried to clean some more, and finally got a round chambered, but it felt really "crunchy when it seated. I got on the target with less than 15 seconds, but the shot missed the bull about 4 inches. The next one, I let go with no time left, (I was actually late), also missed that bull by 3 inches.

I think what happenned was when cleaning the powder out of the action, I pushed some up into the barrel. When I chambered the round, there was raw powder on the wrong side of the bullet. Gosh knows what that did to the barrel when the bullet encountered powder on the wrong end.

As they say, it's hard to cure 'stupid'

Let's just say that ended my day. Probably ruined my best barrel. I gathered my stuff, stayed long enough to see the end of the yardage, wished everybody good luck, and headed home.

Congratulations to those that shot well, and to the Denton Club. Thery put forth a great effort to stage this match, and they are to be commended for a job well done.

Been there done that !

My condolences Jackie,
Even putting a primer in backwards gives you a better excuse than I have for my miserable performance this weekend.

Why I like 2.5-2.75/side degree leades, bullets do not get stuck, seater to land marking more concise, yet leade angle is gentle enough to not causing pressure spiking..............Don

On the very relay that Jackie was caught by a tumble weed on bench #6, I was proving on #9 that I could shoot a momentary 50 4X on the target to my left, while conditions were absolutely perfect for a quick run, and never have a competitor complain about a crossfire ... because there was no one there! To quote Forest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does." Boy, your stomach sinks and your head swirls when you realize what you've just done ... and you've driven 245 miles to do it! Regardless of my faux pas, I had an enjoyable day, met a lot of nice people, and had a scrumptious dinner. Although I could only stay for the Score portion, my thanks to all for the hospitality, and to Jon for a well run match. :)

Can you explain a little more of what "side degree leades" are all about for those of us not up to speed on the topic. I'd like to know more. Thanks. :)

Art,
You were not alone. In the first match of score I was on 17 and no one was on 18. So I just naturally shot a perfect 50-5X on 18. Thats how I ended up with a score on that target of 45-5X. Just like Forrest said. Ignorance can be corrected, stupid is to the bone. Congratulations to the Denton gang for a job well done. I had verticle problems all weekend, only to find out during the 3th match of the group 100 that I had a loose verticle adjustment on my Brackney mount. If it had not been for bad luck I would have had no luck at all. This old man is tired but happy I found out what my problem was, at least one of them.

As opposed to the standard 1.5 degree leade angle that most reamers and chambers are ground and cut to, which can quite often grab bullets from unfired rounds and dump powder in the chamber, especially with hard jambed bullets and a newly cut leade that still has the radial machine cut texture ............Don

Thanks!

Thanks to all the Denton Gang for a very well run match and letting us have a great time. Thanks to all the vendors who supported the shoot. You are to be commended.
I had a blast! Met some new friends and got to visit with some old ones again. Didn't win anything but a drawing prize but the fun was worth the drive.

Jon and the guys from Denton were great! I was a very lucky person and made off with the Bib bullets, thank you very much Randy! I hope you other winners will see fit to contact the vendors that were so generous with their products and let them know how appreciative that you are.
I had the pleasure of meeting the 2 fine young men from Speedy's Trinidad Gunsmithing school classes, Jacob and Adam. They were very personable, a lot of fun, and very good shooters.
Thanks to the Shilen gang for a great meal and to Mikel and Bill driving all the way up to serve us.
Butch
