Hi guys in little over a weeks time, I'm touching down in Texas for 2 week road trip.
I have got a rough plan of my route:-

AMARILLO

LUBBOCK

SAN ANGELO

BANDERA

SAN ANTONIO

CORPUS CHRISTI

HOUSTON

I would really like it if you could recommend any great gun shops along the route,I'm really on the look out to buy Edgewood bags.
I would also like it if you could recommend any ranges, restaurants, and sight worth seeing.

Thanks

Adrian

Texas Trip

Here Ya Go. http://www.touringtexas.com/ Bring a laptop with ya,or use free Hotel/Motel lobby computers to access info re location of Sporting goods chains(Cabela"s, Bass Pro Shops,Gun stores). When you check in at one of the Cities on your list, Let us know where you are and I'm sure somebody can assist you in locating a shooting range in the vicinity. My favorite spot to drive to in Texas is the Big Bend Area and down around Ft Davis. Beautiful scenery. The tour guide is very helpful.

enjoy your visit and drive careful.

Bisley,
Welcome to Texas.
When you get to Houston go to Collectors Firearms off Fondren and Richmond.
You will love the place!!
John
P.S.
if you were going to Austin I would say McBrides Gunshop but maybe next time as I am sure you will be back.

If you want something from Edgewood consider ordering in advance and having shipped to someone as I would be very surprised if you ran across any "Gun Shops" that carry Edgewood bags.

Adrian,

If you're coming to Texas you've got to visit Austin [the state's capital and Live Music Capital of the World], which is in Central Texas, about 100 miles North of San Antonio on Interstate I-35.

Unfortunately, this time of the year Texas starts getting real hot for some folks. The rest of this week in Austin, for instance, will be between 101 to 102 degrees through Saturday.

I called Edgewood, which is located 20 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in Edgewood, NM and ordered a new front bag with the new 3M super slick material earlier today. Wait time is 4 weeks.

I just recalled the Rep to see if anyone sold their bags in Texas and the answer was NO.

For reference, Amarillo is 292 miles or 470 kilometers or a 5 hour drive to Edgewood, NM, one way, on I-40.

About 40 miles south of Austin, in Buda, on I-35 is Cabela's. Someone mentioned McBride's here in Austin. I've shopped there many times. However, it's a high end shop. Very nice everything ... with matching moderately high to high prices. More often I'll use Academy, Cabela's, or Walmart.

If you decide to venture this way send me a personal email and I'll see if I can play host for a day or two or even a few hours. I'm a two-time retiree so I have some free time.

The state Capital, the University of Texas, and the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and IMAX Theatre which covers the history of Texas are within blocks of each other, so everything is convenient.

Regardless of whether you make it here or not, have a safe trip. :)

Thanks

Thanks for all great advise guys,8 days to go can't wait.
Considered driving to the Edgewood factory, but i think the old lady would kill me.
Were thinking about stopping at a dude ranch for a few days, maybe i can get Bruno's to ship the the address.
Bruno's appears to be the nearest dealer to Texas, maybe they do next day tracked shipping.
Thanks for the great offer abintx about meeting up in Austin, nothing is set in stone it may happen ?.

Thanks
Adrian

I called Edgewood on Monday and ordered a new front bag with the new 3M super slick material. The one I wanted was in stock and was shipped on Tuesday so I guess it depends which one you need. I was told that right now the 3M super slick material front rest is so new it is only available from Edgewood itself.

I ordered mine on Wednesday, vice Monday, and requested the front bag that fits my Jon Loh rest. That may be the difference as to why I'm having to wait 4 weeks.

Protektor [ http://www.protektormodel.com/ ] has 3M material they received about 2 weeks ago. So if Protektor makes a bag you might be interested in, they've got the material too. Ask for David the manager. He'll make you any kind of bag you want. :)

That was probably the difference. I ordered the common soft front bag with the 3M material and that is one of their standard bags.

You will enjoy going by Killough Shooting Sports in Winters, Texas. They have only the third Eley Test Facility in the World. Dan Killough and his wife Dawn run a very slick operation. They are a real joy and you will really like them. Winters is just outside San Angelo.

Amarillo, Lubbock, San Angelo, Bandera, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Houston. That is a big area.

I am glad you have my town, San Angelo, on your list. This is ranch country. Our history is short compared to yours. White men and women started arriving here in the 1870's, after the Comanches were tamed. We have one of the best preserved frontier forts in the country. If you have time visit Fort Concho. They have a great museum.

We are located about 310 miles south of Amarillo and about 400 miles from Houston.

Be sure to visit the Alamo in downtown San Antonio. It is the cradle of Texas freedom from Mexico and a bad dictator. To us, it is a holy place. The battle of the Alamo was in 1836 which was just the other day compared to the rich history of your home country of England. I hope you understand our Texas pride.

We Texans will welcome you and your wife and we hope you enjoy your visit to our state.

I should have been more explicate when I said the 3M super slick material is only available from Edgewood itself. What I meant was that if you want a Edgewood rest with the 3M super slick material you have to order it from Edgewood. It is not in stock at their vendors yet.
