TC Encore 6br

I just got a Encore in 6br. What kind of accuracy could i expect from it? What are some good loads to try in it? I know it won't shoot as good as a bolt gun but i'm curious as to what it's capable of. Also, is there anything you can do to the Encore to make it more accurate?

If it shoots like mine you can expect to unscrew the barrel and use it for a tomato stake.

I have tried every possible combination of powder and bullets known to man. I have also installed the magic 40 dollar machined 2 piece hinge pin and floated the ears on the side of the forearm all to no avail.

One day it will shoot 5 shots into a 1/2 group and the next with the same load it opens up to over 2 in.

I have come to hate this rifle in every configuration. Muzzleloader or centerfire.

My experience

That has not been my experience, however some work is required, namely a trigger job. You can Google that procedure. I have a TC Custom Shop bull barrel that was re-chambered to 22 BR that shoots in the .1s as long as you do your part. I also have a 222 barrel from E. Arthur Brown Co. that does the same thing. You should also ditch the TC forend and make your own with a wider flat base, it's not as difficult as it sounds. Don't mess with oversize hinge pins unless you have a definite wobble or are thoroughly convinced that your rifle won't shoot without one. FL resize your brass to allow closing the action smoothly and permitting the hammer to be cocked, no more than that. After all that and careful load development, good bag technique and consistency in the way you close the action is required. Of course, your experience may vary, but I've been pleased with all my TC Encore barrels.

..... except that damn 204 Ruger thing.......

encore

buddy and i both had 7mm08 barrels 1 to 2 inch groups at 100 yrds. most of the time closer to 2. reloads or factory did not matter. never could get consisent groups out of both guns. my 12in. 44 barrel shoots great.but no more rifle barrels for me

JASON50CAL: My custom 6mm Remington Bench Rest Rifle loves Euber 68 grain bullets with H 322 powder!
It also shoots the Nosler 70 grain Ballistic Tips nearly as well as the custom Euber's!
I also use Federal 205M (match) primers and Norma brass in my rig.
Best of luck with your T/C Encore!
The 6mm BR is an excellent cartridge and has performed wonderfully well for me at the range and in the Varminting fields.
I have always wanted a T/C Rifle but unfortunately as to this date I have not "sprung" for one so I can't help you from personal experience.
My friends that do own them are happy with the accuracy they get with theirs though.
Again best of luck to ya!

I have one like that! It has been back to T/C several times. I noticed mine has a huge gap between the frame and the end of the barrel. I really don't know why I still have that rifle.
I do have a contender carbine in 221 fireball that is one of the most accurate rifles I have.
I think it's like everything else that gets mass produced, sometimes you just get a lemon.

I'm wit' da Rooster..... Encores don't shoot! If you can find a load that puts 5 into 1 1/4" be happy. I'd guess that'll be around 3000-3050fps with a 68gr Match bullet.

People who think TC's "shoot OK" just don't know any better.

I gave up on Encores, never had one that would shoot under a inch.

I have had (and still have) several Encores in both rifle and handgun configurations. The only one I had that wouldn't consistently shoot 1/2 MOA was a 24" 25-06 barrel. It tended a little more than 1 1/2".

Part of the problem is that shooters familiar with conventional rifles seem to insist on trying to make them shoot the same way and they don't. I would suggest you find Mike Bellm's website and read about reloading and the "frame to barrel gap". This will correct numerous issues.

The next thing is modifying your benchrest technique. Break open style rifles don't respond well to being placed on the front rest the same way as conventional rifles. For the best results, use a softer bag and push the rifle up as far as possible. I place the rear of the front bag directly against the front of the action and trigger guard. Be sure and return to this position after every shot. I have also been advised to place the rear bag as far forward as possible. I've had mixed results with this depending on the recoil of the rifle.

I'd suggest you try most any proven load with your 6BR. It should easily shoot under 1/2 MOA. You might do some reading on the Single Shooters Forum and devour everything you can find on Bellm's site. Bellm is clearly a heretic, but he does know TC's.

If the link works look at my agg for this match. I was shooting a Encore in 6 br. I'm # 122. After 3 targets I was I first place, after the 4th I was almost in last. I did redeam myself a bit in the 5th match. The gun itself is better than I can shoot it. But with so many things that can go wrong one always will.

how does your velocity compare to Allie's? :D

I am impressed though, them's real Capital "B" shooters you's with.......

My velocity is slow. 29-30 Varget grains is max. One of the keys to shooting the Encore is keeping the gun from flexing. I also had it in the 6PPC version and 26-27 grains 133 was tops. It will handle much hotter loads for Hunting purposes but accuracy starts falling off quickly.
Dont think I'd try to keep up with Allies speed with a Cannon!
Allie and Lee have taken an Interest in my Boys learning to shoot, and have been very involved with them shooting at a local competition level. Two of the nicest guys to shoot with. But Luckily I can say that about most in our sport.

You're a lucky guy, and your boys too .... you're right, the Bros. Euber are exceptional even for benchresters.
