Hey, fellas could someone explain to me the what has to be done to have a switch barrel,I would like to have a 338 edge to go with ultra mag. In future, also would like to know disadvantages of barrel swap if any.

If you want to switch out alot of different barrels on one action it is best to pin or double pin the recoil lug so it is always in the same location.
You can always use a lug alignment tool but in my opinion it is best just to pin the lug.If you don't the recoil lug will be offset a minute amount and your bedding can suffer.

If it's done properly, a pinned recoil lug for rifles with separate lugs, and the cartridges use the same bolt face switch barrel rifles are a good idea. You can have several calibers without the expense of several complete rifles, and you have a stock that fits and a trigger you know. The same scope too.
If you'd like a switch barrel for cartridges with different head sizes you can do it with a Savage action.
not really any down side if you double pin the recoil lug i really like the set-up that Larry Racine uses (http://www.lprgunsmith.com/lpr_switch_rifle.htm) and i copy it on our switch barrels rifles.
Never seen the setup in the previous post, but wonder what holds the receiver when installing of removeing a barrel. I have a 40XBR with one pin in the lug and four different versions of the 6 BR barrels. I use a barrel vice and action wrench. It is my favorite rifle.
Jerrold: I set-up one of my Remington 700's 6BR as a switch-barrel, to 308, and could not be more pleased. I am using the Davidson barrel vice (Sinclair), with the Davidson rear entry receiver wrench. Barrel is clamped into the Davidson after several wrappings of heavy brown shopping bag paper to protect blued & polished stainless finishes. Never put a mark on a barrel. Bought a used "Snap-On" 0 to 200 ft. lb. torque wrench from a retired auto mechanic, and on the advice of my 'smith am using 65 ft. lb., for trouble-free operation. A very light application of Permatex anti-seize is applied to the threads for each application, after removing the "old". Have Go gages for each of the ctgs. involved. Switching takes approx. 30 minutes, but I take my time: others could probably do it in less time. Am using the Kleindorst recoil lug fitting to hold the recoil lug in position. All turned out so well, I'm setting up several other rifles for switch-barrel. Should have done it years ago. If any questions or comments, feel free to send a PM. Redrock: and, you can truthfully tell the wife, "but honey, I only have one rifle".
