I'm going to have my new Leonard "Red wood" (carbonfiber) stock soon.:)

Is it possible to get some transparent stock tape?
I have only find some like Sinclairs lightblue and brown modells.
Anyone got some tip-off? where I can buy it?

Thanks.

Jan, talk to Terry about this. He'll give you a better idea than stock tape for his stocks.

Okey Jerry.
I'm going to mail Terry and see what he propose then.
Thanks.

Not to be a fly in the ointment but that sure was a informative post with lots of knowkledge shared.

Lynn, Terry has developed a method to treat the stocks he makes. I have the process on my Leonard stocks but I'm not at liberty to give out the details. Call Terry, he'll probably share the info but it may not work as well on non wood stocks and especially stocks that don't have the clearcoat finish material he uses.

The treatment is not rocket science that will change the way benchrest is shot, its just a refinement that makes some stock finishes glide consistently in the bags and still not be too slick.

I have found this company to be a great source for stock tape: http://cshyde.thomasnet.com/category/tapes-with-psa?. They will cut rolls to the size and length you want. I use #19-5A, cut to 5 inches wide by "5 yards" long. Cost was around $26.00. #19-5A has an acrylic adhesive which holds up better in heat versus a rubber adhesive. I make sure I clean my stock area with soap and water to get all the dirt and oil off it before I apply the tape. I have a good finish on my stocks so the soap and water has no effect on the surface.

As I mentioned, the tape that I buy is around $26.00 for a roll 5 inches X 5 yards or 5" X 180" or 36 pieces of 5" X 5" which equates to 72 cents each. [180" divided by 5" = 36. $26.00 divided by 36 = .72]. 72 cents a sheet is inexpensive. 36 pieces too many ??? Order a shorter roll.

CS Hyde was also very helpful when I was researching tape and sent me four samples. I dealt with Sheridan O'Brien who I believe is one of the company's principals. As I recall the conversation she also does some shooting and understood the application. Hope you find exactly what you're looking for. CS Hyde's number is 1-800-461-4161. :)

Butch ...

I found that company a couple years ago when I was doing research for a stock tape and wrote the write up you see above for those who I thought might be interested. The folks at 6mmbr.com mentioned it also on their site. CS Hyde is a good company. The samples they sent me really helped with the selection I ultimately made.

Side note: I'm in Anchorage for my last week of a three week stay. Got down to 47 degrees last night. It's 11:23 AM here now and it's only 58 degrees! A little cool to play golf but it sure beats the heat in Austin. Art :)

Art,
I lived in Anchorage from 1974-1980. We really enjoyed living there. CS Hyde has been a real pleasure to do business with.

If you want to really get slippery in the bags? Add that spray on dry body deodorant to your stock tape and the top of your bags. I would not go beyond the 6 PPC or smaller recoiling chambering with this. You might just be eating a rifle.:D
