I have a Takasawa 14 x 400 tool room lathe. I want to add a rear splash guard to keep oil off of the shop wall and ceiling behind and above the machine. Any suggestions as to material, who to contact to build it etc. My welding skills are zipp. I live near Austin, TX. Thanks for any help. Tim

Look around some. There is a design for a clear plastic, steel framed, thingy you can make that swings over the chuck but allows you to see the chuck and allows the use of a coolant nozzle.

Thin (1/16") polycarbonate will bend like sheetmetal (drill corners to prevent stress cracks), is light(ish), and pretty easy to work with. You'll want some 'straps' - maybe 1"x1/8" steel for mounting and maybe to add rigidity. That's probably the direction I would go.

Eureka!

Jerry, The unit you recommended seems to be mainly for safety rather then containing splashing but it gave me a brainstorm about how to design a splash guard much simpler then I originally had envisioned. Using the other recommendations as to material with the addition of a magnetic clamp the design should work. Thanks all for your suggestions! This project has now superseded my latest idea of marketing an Ocasio-Cortez dart board. Tim
