Has anyone used the Smartreloader iSD Digital Powder Scale & Dispenser? Graf's shows it for $205.95. Quite a deal if it is as good as the ad states.

seems like everyone of the forums is waiting on someone else to buy one and post up a review. I still haven't seen a review yet.

It's pretty new. Why don't you give it a try and report back on how you like it.

It is amazing how both the Hornady product and this one look so much like the RCBS Charge Master 1500 Combo. The only significant difference is the color. RCBS should be happy. Copying their combo is the ultimate compliment. It also shows a lack of imagination in design on the part of Smartreloader and Hornady. :)

Are all combo scale/dispensers slow?

Slow is a relative term. RCBS Charge Master 1500 dispensers can be reprogrammed to move at a good clip by calling RCBS and speaking to their programming guru Don Legg Jr. :)

Try logging into MidwayUSA website and read the reviews on electronic scales. Some of the reviews are very extensive in the number of comments and the the posters call it like it is. By now there might be some comments on this new Hornady and the new Lyman also.

After a lot of dithering about whether to buy an electronic scale or not, I took the plunge and bought a RCBS Load Master, and brother, I have never looked back. It is all RCBS touts it to be and I have never had a minute's trouble with it. Follow the instructions to the letter, they are neither complex nor extensive, and it will speed your charging up dramatically.

I have loaded .32 S&W cases down to 1.5 grains and the 'Nought Six with 48.7 grains and it never misses a beat. I check every 10th charge or so against a RCBS 505 beam scale and they correspond exactly. What a relief not to have to wait for that damn beam to quit swinging up and down or diddling with a measure when you need to change a charge.

If you decide to get a RCBS Load Master check the various suppliers for the best price. I got mine at Natchez Shooters Supply for about $40 cheaper than anyone else. It was delivered the fourth day after I placed the order

Wahoowah

Sixty to eighty seconds per charge is three or four times slower than the Chargemaster I think. I haven't timed mine, but it dispenses and weighs a charge about as fast as I can seat a bullet, put the loaded round in an MTM box, and flip another case right side up to take the charge.

It moves right along, and that's just the way it came out of the box.

I bought a PACK from the factory for $234 shipped. I have timed many loads since I got it, and typical times for 30 gr of Varget is 20 seconds. It's either right on 30 grs or 29.9grs. And I have mesured them on a Dillon scale and my old Redding scale. The PACK is right on everytime.

Found a brief one. The comment "60-80 seconds to throw 24.5 grains of H4895" is enough to make me shy away.

I've never used such a machine but that seems awfully slow. Are all combo scale/dispensers so slow?

Ben, I had the same fear. . . . . . . slo o o o w w w w . . . compared to cranking the hannle.

I use the RCBS straight outta' da' box. I tried a slew of mods, explored the parameters of the mechanism and decided I agreed with the RCBS techs :)

Here's how it's faster.

You don't DO IT the same as it ever was.... YES, if you do all your preps and steps and just set there with a loading block in your hand like you were gonna' crank a block full your hand and brain will get really tired. So you don't do it that way.

FIRST item on the agenda, you buy 4 or 5 of the little powder tray funnels. Using tape you carefully weight them to be identical.

Then you set out 3-4 case trays, the final one being your carry box.

You start with just a few cases primed and ready and get the scale going. With four (even 3 or 2) pans waiting you then ease into reloading. You will have every tray in use, some waiting to be sized, some sized, some sized/primed, some sized/primed/powder and finally some fully loaded and dropped. It's kinda' like getting your MEC or Dillon progressive going.

It's progressive reloading with a scale.

At least that's how I do it.

I've used one that was on display at Graf's Reloading in St. Charles.

It's a steaming pile of crap. Cheaply made and basically does not work in any useful way.

I certainly wouldn't go that far. Big difference between owning one and trying a demo unit in a store. Not quite on par with a Chargemaster but it does what its supposed to do. The speed of the powder drop can be adjusted so that It can drop pretty quick but accuracy will suffer. I have mine set where the initial drop is fast and the trickle is on the slower side. Its just an ok buy at its current price. However if it was selling for half of what it is now then it would be a great buy.

Jerry if you go to u tube there is a video of this dispenser and how to adjust the dispenser speed. In this video it dispenses out 57.3 gr in about 8 seconds. If you go to u tube look up ( smartreloader iSD Automatic Dispenser Speed Adjusting - Less ) it will get you there
