Scope Suggestion

Hey Gang. I have a Ruger 6mm PPC that I shoot for fun and enjoyment. Spare me the Ruger Lecture, the only person I compete against is myself. I am looking at a scope upgrade. What are the popular scopes and powers used these days. I will be shooting in the 100-200 yard range for accuracy. At some point I may look into a better rifle, so if I am going to spend money on a scope now I would like to head toward the good end, and of course a used scope may be just the thing. Thanks in Advance for any information provided.

Weaver T36

For the money, the Weaver T36 can't be beat. Can be purchased from sponsors here for under $400, or used in the classifieds or on Ebay.

Big Sky

A Sightron 36x Big Sky serves me well for 100-200yd BR, good resolution, repeatable adjustments, and at half the price of the Leupold, a good value.

There is a move among BR Guys toward the March Scope, it would seem that there is no better. Some day if I save enough pennies I will have one.

When you look for a scope keep in mind that some are warranted only for the original owner. Any covered repairs will require a sales slip.

This has kept me from some brands used, even thought the deal looked very tempting.

Leupold Gold Ring scopes. You don't need sales slips, and you don't have to be the original owner. You can safely purchase a used Leupold scope from you neighbor, gun show, or on line and if there is anything wrong with it, Leupold will fix it. In many cases, this makes them the best bargain anywhere.:)

Just the sort of input I was looking for.

This is what I was pointing out. I bought two used 36BRD scopes, and the glass was bad on the one. Sent it to Leupold, no questions asked, returned in a few weeks, and I just paid shipping one way.

There are also some good variable power scopes both from Leupold and Nightforce that can serve double duty; a varmint/hunting scope as well as a benchrest scope. There may be other brands as well, that I am not familiar and therefore cannot recommend. Randy J.

I have a 30BR that I shoot at all different yardages and I have a Weaver 36X. For me that is plenty of power because I am young and my sight hasn't gone yet. But I would also recommend if you are looking to shoot long distances in the future a Leupold 45X Competition Series scope; it is a little pricey, but I know people that have .222's and they can see the bullet holes in a black target at 300m. Something to think about.

You say scope upgrade....what scope do you have now. Since thiss is a factory varmit rifle (I had one of these). I would recommend a B&L elite 8-32 power (made now by bushnell). These are very good scopes. I also seen James Mock has a Burris 8-32 listed in the classifieds for just under 300.00 If you want to use the gun for anything other than punching paper, the high power fixed scopes do not work out very well.

Leupold sent me replacement knob covers for a 3 - 9x VXII I got with a rifle I found in a pawn shop, just because I asked. Six of them, two gloss, two matte, two silver. Leupold warranty and service is unconditional.
