This past Saturday, July 2, 2011, we had our first 600 yard shoot using our two new benches. Work on the new benches and roof extension was completed a couple of weeks ago giving us a total of 6 benches to shoot from. Many thanks to all those who contributed money, materials and/or their labor towards the work that has been done to the range since last fall. I believe we all agree that these changes have resulted in a significant improvement to the range. We still have some more work to do to further improve the range, which will hopefully be completed by the end of this shooting season.
We had a record turnout for the July 2nd 600 yard shoot. There were 28 different individuals who participated in one or more of the three matches we shot. This included 4 individuals who had not shot at our range before. With a few individuals shooting two guns during matches 1 and 2 we had 30 shooters during each of those two matches and 28 shooters for match 3. Since we had all six benches in use we were still able to finish up by around 3:00pm.
Overall, we had a good shoot with some very “spirited” competition. For the most part, conditions were pretty good with little to moderate wind and not much mirage. However, it seemed the humidity and heat increased considerably as the day wore on which likely impacted some of the results.
Results Summary:
• 28 individuals participating in the shoot
• 88 targets shot
• 12 groups measuring under 2 inches
• Smallest group shot was 1.160” which was shot by Paul Whitt in Match 2
• One perfect score of 50 which was shot by Barry Ramsay in Match 3
• 15 opportunities to win (5 for each Match)
• 11 different individuals winning one or more times
