Results of the Isabella County Sportsman's Club 100 & 200 Score Shoot May 21, 2016
The Isabella County Sportsman’s Club located 6 miles west of Mt. Pleasant, MI was host to the first 100/200 yard score shoot of the 2016 season on May 21, 2016. A huge turnout of 17 competitors (some of whom drove many hours) gathered at the Isabella range for a lot of fun and camaraderie. The weather couldn’t have been any better – lots of sun, a few clouds, and a 65 degree temperature made for comfortable shooting. The shooting commenced at 9:30 am with the 100 yard score shoot being contested first. The 200 yard event finished at 5:00 pm. Many thank you’s (to the 13th power) to all those that helped make this event a huge success - Kenny Ross, Marge Robbins, Steve Robbins, Harry Ross, and Mike Johnston. Mike saved the day for getting a power adapter for the editor’s computer before it ran out of battery. And Mike also did one heck of a nice job scoring targets for the first time. Thank you to all!
Now onto the yardage results…
100 yard VFS was quite the duel between Rick Averill, Jim (Hutch) Hutchison, Jim Dyke, and Pat Colwell with only 1X separating them. Hutch shot his trusty 6PPC (preloaded) as well as Pat Colwell. Rick and Jim were banging away with their 30BR’s. Steady as he is, Hutch pulled out a squeaker by creemooring Rick on the first target 5X to 4X. Way-da-go Hutch by winning the coveted Isabella pin! Kurt Schultz drove down from way ‘up north’ to finish with a 250-12X. And winning the Sandbagger Class was none other than John Kenny (shooting Steve Robbins finely tuned 6PPC) with his 240-12X. That was one heck of a crossfire John!
100 yard Factory Class had two shooters dueling it out between Geoff Schmidt and Andy McKinney. Geoff came out on top with his 224-4X.
200 yard VFS belonged to Jim Dyke hammering out one heck of a nice clean with 11X’s. And this was with a bum shoulder too! The story goes that Jim was dreaming of being in an earthquake the night before the match and rolled out of bed onto his shoulder! Well, that is what was told to the editor. Rick Averill took ownership of 2nd place with his fine 250-7X. By the way, Rick makes fantastic looking leather scope covers. The quality and artisanship is second to none. The Sandbagger Class was won by Kurt Schultz with his 234-7X. Larry Feusse dropped out of the competition due to a blown primer issue.
200 yard Factory Class was won by Andy McKinney shooting a fine looking Tikka.
And now onto the Grand Aggregate…
The Factory Class Grand Aggregate was won by Andy McKinney posting up a 433-13X. Nice shooting Andy! Not too shabby for your first time out!
The VFS Class Grand Aggregate was won by the Rimrock shooter, Jim Dyke with his excellent 500-30X. He sure knows how to shoot with one shoulder! Rick Averill locked in second place with his clean 27X. And many thank you’s to Dudley Pierce for carrying Jim back and forth to the firing line!
Congratulations to all competitors! This was the largest gathering of Benchrest shooters I have ever seen at Isabella. I hope that this keeps up – it’s a lot of fun! This was also the first match of the 2016 Michigan Score Tournament – a separate posting will have the results included.
The next match in Michigan is the Harry Hoppe Memorial consisting of 100 & 200 score shooting. The match starts at 10:00am on Saturday, May 28.
