Remington Center Guard Screw

I have a mid-1990's Remington 700 BDL Varmint rifle, chambered in Win. 308 (short action). The stock is one of the older BDL stocks with the bright finish. I'm in the middle of a project, probably changing the caliber to .260 Rem. I obtained a newer Remingtion BDL stock, laminated thumbhole. The existing action fits with no problem. However, the front guard screw only comes to the bottom of the barrel channel. The front screw is the standard 1/4x28, and is 1.125" inches in length, and it appears to be about 1/4 inch too short.

Does someone make a longer guard screw, say 1.25" in length, or does the entire guard assembly need to be replaced?

Thanks in advance.

Pen, Go to the hardware store and get a couple of socket head screws and cut or grind them off to fit your rifle. If you can't find them, send me an email and I will send you a couple.

Brownell's has them - same as the Remington and hard - not that soft garbage from the hardware store.

I have a factory Remington SS hex head countersunk screw that I got from Midway that is 1.5" long. I will see if I can come up with the PN. All my long saved Midway invoices went in Monday's recycling :(

I could be suffering from complete confusion :) A SS ADL rear trigger guard screw is 1.5" long with the correct 1/4-28 threads. The Midway pn is 156089 for SS and 435834 for blue

ETA- The title of this thread does say 'Center Guard Screw'. Anyway, with the PN's I have supplied he can order them and cut them to the PERFECT length his application requires :D

Brownells sells extra length action screws for Remingtons, both slotted and hex, that's the ticket.
hex part # is 084-272-700
slotted is # 084-271-000 for ADL/BDL
anyway, just type in the #'s and you'll see what's available and what you need.

Thanks for all the replies. Day before yesterday, I stopped at my local pusher, and his 'smith had the Brownell's screw in stock. It was about 3/8" of an inch too long. Two minutes, a hack saw. and a file rendered it exactly correct in length. Worked like a charm.

Now, for the hard part, determining the caliber I want. So far, .260 Rem has the nod, but I could be convinced of 6.5x284. It's going to be a long range piece, so I'll be checking out at least those two.

Again, thanks for all the help.
