Reloader 17 Accuracy Potential

I have read quite a bit about the increased velocity potential of Re17 in certain cartridges such as the .284 Win. My question has to do with peoples experience with the accuracy achieved.

I'm developing a short 7mm wildcat based on the WSM case. Its capacity is just a tad higher than the .284 Win. I'll be using 180 gr Berger VLDs to start. I've heard H4831SC has been used with very good accuracy results in the .284 but RL17 can deliver over 100 fps more speed. (A 6mmbr.com article on the 7mm cartridges gets into this.) In time, I'll likely end up testing both of these powders but I'd like to hear what expieriences people have had in load development and/or competition relative to group size.

(Notice I referred to Reloader 17 multiple ways so people can find this thread more easily by searching.)

rl 17

I use it in a 6x47l,6.5wssm,6mmremAI works well. all shoot in .200 at 100yards

Any one prefer it for the 6.5x47 Lapua? If so, why?

I just got done tooling around with my 6x47 Lapua. Its shooting 10+ rounds well under an inch at 300 yards using 40.5 grains of 4350 pushing 108 Bergers at 3040 fps with 8 fps extreme spread. I'm going to try R17 next time out but I am pretty pleased with the results so far. I did hear you can realize 100fps more w/R17.

In the 6x47l with 41g rl17 and 107smk 3350 no pressure at all at 800ft elevation and 60df. got around 3275 with 41.5g h4350 with mild primer creater

If you don't mind my asking what action/barrel are you using and how hot did you go before realizing pressure.

At 41.5g of rl17 in a F class panda and 8twist kreiger just started to creater the primer and it was only 60-65df with low humidity so may be a tad hot for the summer. This was at 3375fs with 107smk

I've done some testing at 1000 with RL17 out of three 284 bbls. - a 28" PacNor 3-groove, and 30" Bartlein & Kriegers. The 30" bbls. will give over 2900fps with moly'd Berger or JLK 180s using RL17. The PacNor is the only one of the three that really shoots well with S175MKs; it does real well with RL17. In fact, I think with a little tuning, all three bbls. will shoot as good with RL17 as they do with H4831, which - along with N165 - have been the most accurate powders I've used in these barrels.
