Reducing Fireingpin Bolt Hole Size

I have an older Panda action that I want to reduce the bolt's fireing pin size and bush down the hole in the bolt. I am createring primers on the hotter loads etc. Is there an old thread that I can pull up with info about this proceedure? Thanks John Hicks
 
Two basic ways to bush bolt firing pin hole

One way is to drill, ream, and thread a bushing then machine off

The second way is to drill, ream, and press fit a bushing then machine off.

Both ways are acceptable.

Greg Tannel talks about this service on his web site.

Any skilled gunsmith or machinist can do this service.

The new firing pin hole should be chamfers on the back side and lapped on the inside.

The firing pin should be cold ground to fit bushing.

You don't want to harden the firing pin until it becomes brittle.

Jerry Stiller wrote an article and the easy way to explain blanking primers is to take a coffee can and a 5 gallon bucket. Put a piece of carboard over thema dn then try to push in the middle. The larger the hole the easier to blank the primer. I have a couple done by GreTan and can say nothing but good about them, price, workmanship, turnaround time.

Does your pin have a sharp tip? The pin will penetrate a bit over .020, not to your protrusion depth. If your pin tip radius is sharper than .020", you may see cratering no matter the clearance.

I'll second the vote for Greg Tannel's workmanship and turn around time. He sleeved a Rem. bolt, bushing the firing pin hole, turned the firing pin and had it back to me in a very reasonable amount of time. He's also a pleasant fellow to do business with.
