Rear bag stabelizer

When i ordered my new edgwood rear bag i also got the rear bag stabelizer or donut, just in case i needed to rase the rear bag up. Is there any pros or cons on using this typ of setup?. mine is made of solid leather with a hollow center that also has leather. I have noticed that some are sand filled and some like mine just have leather. Have any of you achived or improved your accuracy using thes stabelizers? or do you feel that your gun tracks and rides the bags better without one?

Depends on the bag, I think.

I have made such devices for less expensive bags that are slightly rounded on the bottom and have a tendency to rock. I use these bags for sighting in hunting rifles and other less critical applications. Something like the Edgewood should be very flat and stable. My rear bag is a Protektor Doctor bag with a handle. The base is about an inch thick and very flat and stable. I have not needed to add any height with my BR or F-class guns as the front rest has enough elevation adjustment. However, something like an AR can require extra elevation in the rear just so the magazine and handle can clear. For that, I have a set of nested blocks that I built. It is five 3/4 inch boards that have rubber feet on the bottom tier and dowels to stabilize the upper pieces. This, plus a regular Protektor bag with my "donut" has served well for all sorts of weird applications.
