question

I have an old Rem 700 PSS with an HS stock with a bedding block. It's a good enough stock, but the bedding blocks aren't necessarily square with the world. Mine needed to be bedded, and that put the barrel in contact with the barrel channel (the block was low in the rear, so when it was levelled...). The hard skin on those stocks is very thin and in opening the barrel channel I got through the skin and had to coat the exposed open cell foam with epoxy.

It was more a pain in the tail than anything, but it can happen.

So yes they can be a good stock for a varmint rifle.

H-S Precision makes really nice stocks for carry 'round woodchuck hunting but I'm not familar with there bench stocks. Be prepared for a pretty lengthy wait (3 months) for one unless someone like Midway has the one you want in stock. While you are at it check out Kevin Rayhill's stocks at his website. You can pick one up and do as much or as little work on it yourself and save money accordingly. http://www.stockadegunstocks.com/stocks.html

Good luck,

Rodney

rifle stocks

bigted: Re-stocked one of my Bench rifles with a H&S BR stock several yrs ago, and am happy with it. Just recently bought a Bell & Carlson "medalist", and it too seems to be high quality.

I have an HS Precision stock on my stainless fluted sendero 300ultra and I like it a lot. Mine fits the action perfect.
