I find that 748 power dirty. My brass is real dirty after I use it
I'm going to try Mag. primers like most of the info says
has any one found it to be dirty
Don aka FBOH (five bullets one hole);)

Well

If you have five bullets going in the same hole then I would just wipe the brass clean and keep shooting.

If the brass is dirty the load is on the light side. IME, even when loaded up this powder leaves the barrel looking like a coal chute. Mag primers won't help. Been there, done that. H4895 is a MUCH better alternative.

If you are talking .223 here

be careful with heavier bullets and H-4895. While say 69g bullets shoot very well using a load of H4895 that was meant for 50g bullets, the primers will either pierce, completely blow out and or the ejector on your bolt may stop working because the head of the bolt will peen into the hole  Been there, done that and have the ruined cases

It's pretty easy to scuff the carbon off cases and inside the barrel and if the result ot the load is what you want, do the extra clean up. If 748 is what makes the magic, welllllllllllll

W748 and other alternatives..

W748 meters well in most measures it has been a military surplus powder at the end of several Lake City contracts. It is somewhat temperature sensitive. As for its cleanliness it is comparable with most the others. You might find H-4895 cleaner but it does not meter as well in a mechanical measure. You might try Varget, A2223, one of the Western Powder company powders or VV540. I have shot a lot of BLC2 too. The difference in group size, velocity, metering and price have generally been my prime concern. I can clean my guns more often if necessary. I will agree after a day of prarrie dog shooting (1000+ rounds) my guns were pretty smoked up.

Thank all of you I'm going to try H4895.
It is a 22-250 Ruger #1V It use to put 5 in side of quarter at 100yd. but not now
A lot of hot rounds through it (3600 plus up to4000 plus fps)
I love to hunt ground hogs but between the tree huggers and coyotes it is hard to find a place.
I get a new knee next week so after it is working I will be looking for a place.

When I recommended H4895, I thought it was for a .223. With a .22-250 I would go with IMR4064 instead, or H380 if you like ball powders.

22-250

I too thought you were speaking of a .223. If you want to shoot ball powder in a 22-250 you might try W760 or TAC.

22-250

After my last post I was thing I have tyred a lot of powders and
IMR 4064 gave me the bast groups. I droped the grains back
but I am going to try some of the old loads. I have had it up to
36.5 and even 37 grains. It all went to Hel* after I cleaned the gun with
US bore paste I use to clean moly out of my bench gun.
It real pissed me off,I used it in factory class, now I could use it
to hunt duck's lol.
I have a RCBS chargemaster scale & dispenser so the type
of powder dosen't matter.
