I have best results with IMR 4064 and RL 15. I have used Varget but seem to have consistency issues between lots.

anyone using 2495 I seems to work for me but I would like to try something else.

all of them listed are good. My favorite is H4895
with 150 or 168 gr sierras

8208 xbr, 4895, varget, 748, N135-N540, H-335 all depending on individual rifle (what it likes)and bullet weight.

748 Ok

I had a HV chambered in .308 win years ago. 4895 shot pretty well but on 748 it would out agg everything else irrespective of what barrel was screwed onto it. However powder fowling could be an issue with that powde. Don't know if that holds true these days.
Andy.

it shoots so well the extreme fouling is worth it. plus its a good powder for gas guns where most dont seem to do well- esp. in an m14

How much 8208 powder do you use in your loads and what weight bullets? Tom

Hard to get somebody to spit out a load if yall havent noticed. Guns are so different you need to start close to the minimum and work your way up carefully. Remember what works well in the winter at 2900' may be painful at 100deg in the lowlands

Ok I'll spit out a load or two that have worked in 3 of my rifles.

43.5 grs H 4895 , sierra 150 match bullet, Remington neck turned brass, federal 210 match primer OAL 2.800 inches velocity 2,750 fps
41.5 grs H 4895 sierra 168 gr match bullet Remington neck turned brass, federal 210 match primer oal 2.800 iinches velocity 2,650 fps

nearly everything works in a 308

I use Varget but Federal uses something very close to (maybe identical to) IMR 4064 in their Gold Medal Match and they get pretty good results. I don't know why it hasn't been mentioned yet. The long list of powders in this thread that make people happy in a 308 is evidence that a medium capacity, medium bore cartridge with medium speed powders is pretty easy to work with.

edit: Oops, 4064 is listed in the second post. Well, no one has mentioned 4320. It works very well also.

I mostly use Vihtavuori N-150 in my .308. I load some with IMR 4064 too, and although it shoots well, it is the filthiest powder I have ever used. N-150 burns super clean and at least in my Criterion bull barrel, is the best I have found for accuracy.

4064 a tad slower then H4895
pick one'' varget very close to 4064, If I had to pick one powder to use it would be H 4895 do to its wide range.
It work's on many smaller cases also like the 222 and up
