Powder manufactuers

Just a curiosity question. Does anyone know who manufacturers the Aliant reloader powders. Also are they sold under a different name like Hogdons extruded powders are relabled ADI powders.
Andy.

Made by Bofors, except Rel-17. Also released under the Norma brand.

Remember that what Norma and Alliant get are bulk powder, +/- 20% burn rate; what is sold in canisters has to (is suppose to) have +/- 10% burn rate variations across lots. There are those who think Norma does a better job than Alliant in achieving a consistent burn rate across lots, and maintaining a more even granule size. That may be Urban Myth -- how could anyone tell?

SIFT IT using three screens and the percentage retained on each screen will tell the tale.

Better yet shot it by each sifted category, it won't get any better than that.

Sifting stick powders seems iffy? I've never mic'd them but don't perceive much difference in diameter of the granules....

Just remember that the different granule sizes are a part of what gives the powder it's burn rate. If you somehow manage to sift these powders, you will more than likely have a different burn rate for each "sort." You'll have to test for pressure for each batch.

Have fun.

BTW, most of the Reloader powders I've used of late have quite a number of mis-shapen granuels...

Charles; I agree on the burn rates but, would you clarify your statement please:

I am not sure what you are saying exactly. Thanks

Ken

Test the sifted powder by reducing the load and work back up - the sifted powder is sure to have a different pressure curve.
