CCRP - NOEL VAUGHN MEMORIAL BENCH REST MATCH - 11/17/2012

Air Gun Shooters,
The “2nd Annual Noel Vaughn Memorial Match” was a success with seventeen air gunners showing up to test
their skill. The temperature inside started at about 44 degrees and went up some.
Johanna (Noel’s widow) and Ellen (Noel's daughter) came to assist and show support for this event.
Ellen checked the math and Johanna provided other assistance. Johanna (a retired school teacher) noticed that
some of the names were hard to read and suggested a 25 point penalty it they didn’t improve. Hand writing was
better for targets #3 & #4.
The scores overall were excellent. Medals with ribbons were given out for Match Winner and 1st through 4th place
in PCP and Springer Class.
JD (John Dodge) was the match winner with a score of 998-75x. The 75x’s broke the old record of 71 set by
Michael Edwards in November 2009. Great shooting JD.
Not far behind JD were Bill Quick and John Mickel who tied but Bill took 1st Place PCP with a higher “x” count.
Bill shot a 996-61x. John took 2nd Place PCP with his 996-53x. 3rd Place PCP went to Gerry Smith with a score of
986-52x. Harry Rayment took 4th PlacePCP with a 985-45x.
JD shot an AA EV2 with AA 8.4 gr. pellets. Bill Quick shot a Walther LG 200 using JSB M-100 8.2 gr. pellets.
Both the rifle and pellets had belonged to Noel Vaughn. John Mickel shot a GC 2 using JSB 8.4 gr. pellets.
Gerry Smith used an Anschutz 2002 and RWS R-10 pellets. Harry Rayment used an Anschutz 2002 and Nygord pellets.
In the Springer Class Harvey Gertson was 1st with a 985-44x. Second Springer was Jim Benson with a 980-52x.
Third Springer was Dave Zinski with a 973-33x and fourth Springer was Walt Schumacher with a 965-31x.
Harvey Gertson shot a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 300 with Tyrolean stock, using JSB RS 7.33 gr. pellets.
Jim Benson also shot a FWB 300 using JSB 7.9 gr. pellets. We think Dave Zinski used a FWB 300S with JSB Express
pellets. Walt Schumacher shot a FWB 300 with JSB Express 7.9 gr. pellets.
There were six perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match. They were shot by JD, Bill Quick, John Mickel and
John Calhoun.
A drawing for ten various items [flashlights (donated by Olympic Arms), pellets, targets, etc.] was held during the
break after shooting target #2. The numbers where drawn by the talented shooters Kay Gribble and Sarah Mickel.
The winners were: John Calhoun, Dave Brown, Mark Burns, Kay Gribble, JD (Dodge), Gerry Smith, John Mickel,
Dave Zinski, Walt Schumacher and Sarah Mickel.
The targets were scored during the event by Gary Thorson, Dale Gigstead and Tony Minerd with Ellen Vaughn
checking math. Great work everyone and a BIG Thank You.
Also thanks to all who assisted with the various duties and the Shooters themselves for attending.
The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match is Saturday December 15, 2012.
JD will be the “Golden Cuspidor” Holder at this match.
