NBRSA 1,000 Yard National Results Photos Now Added

The results have been posted below and to those that were not there Billy Copelin is our new National Champion.
He set 4 pending world records as well.
He used a 6 Dasher in both classes and used pointed bullets done on a Hoover bullet pointer to win almost every thing a shooter could win.
Congratulations Billy you done very well.
Lynn and Lynn Jr

We also had Ken "Mr Sacramento" Schroeder finish top 3 at the very young age of 80 years young.Ken has been using a 6BR for about 10 years now in all matches regardless of the weather and is always at or near the top.He uses Sierra 107's and Varget powder in both guns and nothing ever gets switched or substituted.Ken knows the 6BR as well as anybody your likely to ever meet and he shoots both guns very well.

WAY TO GO BILLY!!!!! You Da' MAN!!!

I'm glad you've been coming to our little local match here in Portland, makes me feel good to know I'm shooting with The Big Dawg. :)

And Lynn, thanks for keeping us all posted..... I see you and your Heavy were running well. Care to share some details? We know what Billy's shooting.

My guns are very accurate but unfortunately they are burdened with a lousy shooter as there owner.
My heavygun is a 300 Ackley with a Calfee type tuner and when adjusted wrong it doesn't shoot big but it also doesn't shoot real small groups. In mirage instead of just running my shots as fast as possible I ended up making minor tweaks ruining my first group each day.I was out of tune about a 1/8th turn on the tuner meaning 7-9 inch groups would be normal without any tweaking/adjusting at all.
I ended up finishing 6th in score and 11th in group with the heavygun but my lightgun is the straw that broke the camels back.It had exactly one match on it and it won everything at that match except single target small group. It came in 2nd and 3rd for single target small group won group agg score agg and single target score so I figured it was good to go.
On the second day of the Nationals I had some of the best conditions I have ever shot in and it was running 11-14 inches.
I developed the load in some heat and the cool weather or some other factor just wasn't working for me.
On ther 3rd day of the match I shot on the last relay with it and the temperature was around 80 degrees. It shot a 14 inch group and a 3.6XX screamer group.
I am going back to Varget powder.

I can only add 5 photos at a time so here are some more.

In these photos we have Don "The Pumpkin" Nielson and Gerald "Jerry" Tierney who were both inducted into the new NBRSA Longrange Hall Of Fame.
The jackets were sponsored by Bartlien Barrels and a big Thank You goes out to the guys at Bartlein Barrels. They help us with prizes and we help them by shopping at there store.A great bunch of guys at Bartlein Barrels.

We also have Jerry Tierney using a Shehane Stock to win a Shehane Stock.Bill and Dianne Shehane have always sponsored our events and Bill Mr 1,000 Yard Shehane is definitely one of the sports best ambassadors.Bill was probaly the guy most responsible for getting my father and myself into this sport and we have atleast 8 of his stocks right now. Thanks Again Bill!!!!!!!

That is not me with dee. that is the hard working match director. that is me with pumpkin.Billy

It is good that Billy and Gary had a trailer, otherwise they would have had to leave some stuff behind.

Jay and Jay from Idaho had a great time, hope to be back in April and/or Oct '10.

The blue heavygun is Curts gun.

I think there were 3 lady shooters at the match and they always get alot of attention.

Jay
We backed my fathers load down 3/10's of a grain saturday night and it shot 3.XXX and 5.XXX in lightgun sunday morning with no pressure at all.Sunday morning we are going to the range to get a Varget load dialed in and the RE15 will never get used again.Louie Tamagni shot his normal load which has been winning like crazy and nothing but big groups.I am switching out the RE25 for the heavygun as well.

Lynn, does Craig, the Match Director, ever get a chance to shoot at your matchs? Carl

Carl
As you know Craig set 2 600 yard world records but since he became Match Director he hasn't shot at all with us.

I have 6 of the huge style heavyguns and if I was doing it all over again I would make the stock out of HDPE or Delrin.I have been buying some HDPE lately at our local Tap Plastics store fully machined extremely cheaply.I had the lady there look at my heavygun stock and we built 4 sets of experimental tracking rails for it.Total cost was less than $60 for all 4 rails. That includes the maching done with a router.Try buying fully machined tracking rails made out of aluminum or stainless steel for $13.

Most people think it doesn't epoxy up very well but it does. The trick is heating the surface of both pieces with a propane torch first then adding the epoxy and clamping. It is lighter than aluminum so your completed gun will weigh 25 pounds less so it is perfect for the 6BR or Dasher type cases and you can always add removeable lead ballast for a big boomer.

Machining it is like butter and if you screw up you simply glue on another chunk and re-do it.

I think Kevin Cram made one out of Corian a while back but never saw it in person only in pictures.

I saved the best picture for last. This picture is of the single target small group winner in the lightgun class.None other than Jay McMunn(Jay,Idaho) from Benchrest Central or "Doctor J" as some call him.
