Just thought I would report that My buddy Rick Pollock who was down in Midland informs me that the winners are:

Tony Boyer in the 2 and 3 Gun
John Horn took the 4 Gun with Gene Bukys in 2nd.

Congrats Gentlemen.

If my math is correct Tony garnered 5 more HOF points and Gene 5 to give him a total of 13. Welcome to the HOF Gene.

It's always inevidable that when a shooter wins the title of "NBRSA Four Gun Champion", the question always comes up "why no HOF Points for the true overall Champion.

It was explained to me years ago that it goes back to when the Unlimited and Sporter-Varmint Nationals were actually separate events, held at different times. Sort of a "Bag Gun vs Unlimited" thing.

This is not going to change. Ed Watson told me once that He thought it should not change because he wanted Shooters to earn that jacket the same way he had too.

Keep in mind, the HOF is not a property of the NBRSA, or the IBS. It is a separate entity tthat recognizes the accomplishments of shooters at the NBRSA or IBS Nationals.

It would make sense to recognize the overall NBRSA or IBS Champion with 2 HOF Points, but since it hasn't happened in30+ years, I would not hold your breath.

I do believe that the HOF has great validity. If you don't think so, just try to win a Yardage, Grand Agg, or Three Gun at a Nationals. My hats off to those that do.........jackie

Kudos to that last statement Jackie. Its hard enough to win a yardage, grand or 2 gun at a 30 to 50 shooter local club match let alone the Nationals w well over 100 of the countrys best.

What classes are HOF points awarded in? I noticed it is awarded for three gun so which class do they not award points for?

In some ways I can understand what Ed meant by that comment.......Now if things changed and you start awarding points for the 4 gun will the points be awarded retrospectivly so that previous winners would be awarded points?? This could have the result of a few more being inducted into the HOF and some already in the HOF getting awarded a lot more points......Ian

Try to not overthink the HOF points.

Congratulations to the winners. With a little extra for Gene and John.

Hard to explain the HOF point system, but easy to explain the HOF members,
These guys ARE something special in the shooting sports. Total dedication, focus, perseverence, mind over matter, and the ability to capture the moment, whenever, wherever and however it is presented to them. Gene B and Bob S Jr. belong in a real HOF(not just a computer HOF) with Tony,Allie,Lester,Wayne,Jack and all the other "monsters"of this game. I shoot for fun and recreation, these guys shoot because they were born to shoot, born to shoot and win. They hold the bar up for the rest of us.
Sincerely,
Joel

Joel, I agree with your thoughts.

I personally feel it is not a matter of awarding more points to see shooters get into the Hall of Fame. It is seeing shooters who were the CREAM OF THE CROP being rewarded for their accomplishments. Whether or not these men/women are loved or hated by the BR community there is one thing they achieved and that was with a lot hard work and dedication to the sport. Many try but never succeed.

I would love to be able to sit with each one of them 1 on 1 for a day. They quite possibly are SO different in there approaches to the sport.

Kudos to ALL of them and those whom had the opportunity to mentor under them.
