My father and I are really interested in getting to our first match this year, but we are unsure of any schedules in our area (central for me and western CT for dad). We both have 30brs, but at this point it would be more fun just to get to shoot in or watch a match whether it be score or group. We know that the PPC would be better for group, but we just like to shoot, and once we get going if the group matches are what's available then a PPC will be next to be built.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. We don't mind a 3-4hr drive if that's what it takes.
Thanks,
Mike

There is a Group Winter League at Dunhams Bay Fish & Game Club up by Lake George, NY the Club is located off NYS Thrruway on route 9L. The Match Dates are Feb. 01, Feb. 15, Feb. 22, and Mar29th. The matches start at 11:00 AM. The person that runs them is Bruce LaChapelle. Good place to get your feet wet, and mostly cold as well.

Hi Mike,

If you check the IBS website they have schedules posted for both group and score matches. Mainville shouldn't be to far, depending on what part of CT you live. Bowmanstown wouldn't be bad either for a score match. I believe there is going to be a score match in the Albany area this year (Johnstown NY). Hope to meet you this summer.

Vermont

You didn't include Vermont on your list but once a month from April-October there is an IBS score match 5 miles north of St. Johnsbury. It is a straight shot up I-91 from Hartford. You won't meet nicer people on the planet, the Vermonters that is. The Mainers that frequent the place, WELL that is a different story! Randy J.

Thank you all so much. I am really looking forward to getting my rifle in tune and getting out there with my dad. We have been plinkers for the majority of my life, and then I "refurbished" his model 700 6mm rem into a Richard Franklin f-class stock. From there it was a slippery slope. I started reloading, getting tighter groups from my .223, and then came across this site. Dad commissioned Sid Goodling for his 30BR, and I had mine built locally.
Now I don't feel right if I don't shoot with windflags and I find myself thinking about chamber dimensions and bullet swaging...
Thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike
Glad to see your post. I'm picking up my first BR rifle tomorrow. Hope to see you and your dad at one of these matches someday.
I'll need to do some work before I can start but I'm not contemplating on waiting to long. I'm too green to realize they can not all go in one hole.;):D
I'm hoping to make it to Dunhams Bay. How does one shoot with mittens??

My offer:

Find a venue in Ct and I will help you get matches started. I have been shooting IBS score for 9 years and ran some Rimfire matches before that. I have a place to stay in east central Ct and time to help you get set up. I know from visiting at least one range that there are clubs that can facilitate shoots. PM or email me if you like. Regards, Pete
