Mann accuracy device. Anybody know about this?Looks like heavy barrel on 03 action, any more too it?

Yes, that is the original design. They are also built using M700 actions. The barrel is 1.25" dia straight with a recoil collar. It sits in two V-blocks, one at chamber area and one at muzzle, with the action free floating. The V-blocks are part of a slide that rides in one long V-block. The whole assembly is mounted in a Bond mount for aiming. Making these barrels and repairing the mount, that came from Frankford Arsenal, is part of what I do every day.

Tyler,
You need to get a copy of Franklin Mann's book. The device is essentially a V (essentially a channel iron) that is adjustable with mechanical front & rear rests . The barreled action rests in the V on cylindrical sections that are turned on the barrel. Harry Pope made many special barrels and tools for Mann to use in his eexperiments.

Ron

7.62mm Mann Accuracy Barrel

7.62 Accuracy barrel drawing attached. You can see the two locations that the V-blocks grab. The newer versions that the ammo companies use, have done away with the sliding V-block and use Thompson slide bearings. The sniper rifle calibers, .308 match and .300WM, are tested in a fixture that grabs the chamber area only on a test barrel. When I get back to work, I should have more pictures and drawings.
