PS..good news for all shoters....we need to support their effort and enjoy another place to shoot long range.....thanks for letting us know about it....

I haven't got anything that qualifies as a 600+ yard Rifle, (well, to be remotely competitive, that is), lots of things in the planning stages. I guess I need to get to work on something........jackie

Jackie, I suspect a lot of us are going to be doing some work. A bunch of the rifles we have been shooting will only qualify as heavy guns. Its going to be a fun winter!

I posted a couple of pictures of the range over on the string on the 600 / 1000 yard forum if you want to see what the range looks like.

Heck, Ive got a rifle to shoot 600 yards with, but what i need is a car that i can afford to drive 800 miles and still have money left over for entry fees!! Lee

Joe are Sam will they have a scale there? I have never weighed my Dasher and I think it is going to be close to the limit.

Darn Butch I did not think about the old hack saw trick at the match. I should have though it is setting right next to the 1 ¼’’ drill and bit for crowning in my range box.

Terry, I believe we have to have a set of scales but we have not gotten that far yet. Lots of details to work out. I might suggest that you take your rifle to a nearby grocery store / meat market and see if you can get them to weigh it for you. Their scales are accurate. If you are real friendly with your local postmaster, you might try there as well. But warn em before you carry the rifle in. :D

I don't know if I have the funds to build another rifle. How would my HV 30major score rifle work out at 600?

Andre, From my experience with a 30 at 200, if you are in very light conditions, that 30, (I assume you are using typical Varmint for Score weight bullets), it will hold it's on. But, the wind will kick those low BC pills around quite a bit.

Like you, I have several Rifles that I win with in the short range game, but sooner or later, I will have to build some sort of 17 pound Rifle in a chambering that can untilize the best in bullets in the 550+ BC range, that of course, will offer "Benchrest Accuracy".

I have a reamer that makes a long version of a 25 BR, (25X46), that I might put something together with that will shoot that 115 grn Berger VLD out of a nine twist. You make cases by necking up a Lapua .243. ..........jackie

Hi Joe,

Good to hear on this! Guess I'll be trying to put one of my F-Open rigs on a diet... Curious how you will be handling the pit issue during the sighting period?

From the NBRSA rule book, these are the procedures for pits or no pits. We have no pits at the range at Huntsville.

► 2008 - Page 70, under L. Official Rules for 600-Yard Benchrest Competition, paragraphs #3 and #4

4. For 600-Yard BR Ranges WITHOUT Pits (effective January 1, 2009):
(a) Clay birds must be placed as close as possible to the target. One target per shooting
