Length to cut from barrel blank.

What is the general practice of the amount of barrel blank to cut off the muzzle end. My blank will fit my stock better if I only cut 3/4" and take the bulk from the breech end. It is a 5&1/2 contour 17 caliber Shilen. Thanks Kenny

It is a pretty universal rule to cut at least 1 inch from the muzzle of a new blank.........jackie

When i got my last couple barrels, there was a saw mark on them to where the suggested crown area should start.

Mike, The shilen has no mark and I was just wondering what the general practice was and if there was more than one opinion. I have plenty of barrel and an inch or so will work out fine. I bought the barrel thru Jerry Wilbanks [barrelman ] and had it in my hands 12 days after I ordered it. Can't beat that for service. Kenny
