Don,

Great looking stock. Which company did you use, I know there are several?

Thanks,

Paul

great pattern...

is that a decal that they aplied ...by dipping??? how is it done...looks great ...Roger

Just called and spoke to Adam - i am going to have them do a McMillan stock for me with candy apple red flames - thanks for posting.

Less expensive than what I pay to have stocks clear coated, faster turnaround and it will bring this old stock to life.

Andrew,

For me, less money and less hassel than painting them myself. Be sure and post a couple of pictures of your finished produst.

Andrew..you can have a stock clear coated for $35...you mean to tell me they quoted a Hydro-dip at less than $35...:eek:

Hey Francis,

I've looked at all the pictures on their website and they look great. I was hoping for some high resolution pictures. Do you know how durable the stuff is? I don't think I've ever see this.

Adrian

It seems to be as durable as any other automotive finish I've had on other stocks. Granted I haven't dropped it on a bench or bumped in against anything "yet" :D

Adam says they use the same clear coat that is used on new cars. I will know more in a couple of months as I am about ready to depart on my annual ground squirrel shoot.

Hi Don,

You are correct sir. We use DuPont urethane clearcoat. The U.V. life is a 10 year minimum (much longer if waxed and cared for properly). Please keep solvents off the Hydro-Dipping.

If some of you are interested in our process please read this page:

How does Hydro-Dipping work?

is that a decal that they aplied ...by dipping??? how is it done...looks great ...Roger

Roger,
Thanks for the compliment. Our process is known as hydrographics or hydro-dipping. We use automotive base primers and paints, and then sublimate the item in our Hydro-Dipping tank.

For step by step process please read this page: http://www.hydro-dip.com/process.htm

Thanks,

Clear coated for $35? I am sure you can get a stock sprayed for that.

However -

8 -10 coats applied with sanding and finish in between each coat from a top flight stock finisher runs over $200 on a real good day and takes a long time to get done. This is the route you go when you want a durable deep lustrous finish and beautiful shine on your $700 laminated stock. And that gets you only clear coat - that ain't custom paint work.

You pay for the results you want.

When I posted the first thread about my stock I only had the pictures that Adam sent. The stock arrived last evening and it is super. It is at least 10 times better than the pictures and the clear coat finish seems to be hard. I can not even feel the seams of the coating. Hydro-dip did a super job and I am now saving for another. It was wrapped in felt for the return trip and arrived in top condition courtesy of Mr Brown.

It was bedded befor I sent it to Hydro-dip. They masked off the entire action area and the trigger guard. I just got the stock back and I have not had a chance to put the barreled action back into the stock. I am going to do that tomorrow and if there are any problems I will post them here.

another post that put a hole in my wallet

After reading this post I called Adam and sent in an old stock that I had set up for a Savage target action.

Quick turnarounf and exdellent results - took around 2 weeks.

The pictures don't do it justice.

I am sending another stock in next week
