HV/VFS preferred barrel length?

I cut my 30BR barrels to 22 1/2 inches.

The only thing that a longer barrel will get you is a front heavy Rifle.

Of course, if he wants to shoot heavier bullets with a slower powder, he might realize a little more velocity with a longer tube. But he won’t use up any energy picking up plagues.

Been there, done that.

Barrel length

I’ve seen a variety of barrel lengths on competition Rifles(HV/VFS).There doesn’t seem to be an absolute choice, when it comes to barrel length. Some barrels shoot, some don’t. A new shooter,Young guy, that shot with us here in the Gulf coast region, racked up a bunch of wins with a 19 inch barrel on a Sporter. Reading wind flags was not one of his strong points. Go figure.

the barrel on my HV is 21 inches.

What caliber, bullet weight, ogive, smokeless or black powder. Need more info to make the right decision?
I don't think there is a universal answer
