How is the panic over the gun banners affecting prices?

I've heard that panic buying has emptied shelves and pushed prices to insane levels and recently heard of 20 round boxes of plinking grade 223/5.56 going for $100. This is hearsay since I don't need to buy any pre-loaded stuff and haven't been in the shops. But I will have to get some bullets before I shoot another match. Is there a component mania going on right now? I'm sure we all remember the great primer shortage.

THE NEW PRIMER SHORTAGE IS ALREADY HERE.
so is the powder shortage..
only time will tell if restocking is possible
i sold a rifle for a bunch more than "normal" 'cause it was black and 223..
my 45 acp sold out sat am at a 25% premium...
223 sold out before the show opened to other dealers....normally 160/165 for 500 went for 200
there is aprox 11000 names in line for background checks in colorado as of sunday afternoon
normal 1-2 hr check is taking a week or more..

odds and ends primers are available as is magnum rifle powder...not much else..

Fear is a great motivator. Find a catalyst and a way to instigate it amongst a group of individuals who are normally, overly suspicious, and you can make a fortune. That's why shorting stocks is a good way to make a huge amount of money in a few hours or a few days. Panic sets in, common sense and logic go out the window, and those who keep their heads, benefit big time. It's finding a weakness and exploiting it. Are shooters being exploited? By whom? By their own personality? By the Firearms industry? By a black ops, off-the-books, stealth organization? Is it a conspiracy of sorts? Makes one wonder, doesn't it? Getting a very large group of people to part with their hard earned cash on something they probably have plenty of already, is genius. Whose that smart?

i think it is much simplier than that....
simple sabre rattling by the anti gun people, add a shooting, a lame duck anti pressident an anti gun press and bingo....
roll into the current economy...
or maybe there are some people who really do no ttrust thier government

Alot of it is profiteering by sellers feeding on the fears of others as noted above and in/on other sites. Yep the American way SCREW the other guy I'M MAKING MY MONEY. Capitalism Love it/Hate it

Maybe some of you aren't old enough to remember but back in '73, after the first Dirty Harry movie smith model 29's were being hawked for twice retail. This is not a new phenomenon. It will pass on most items. If however certain guns are made part of the NFA and no more are allowed to be sold into the civilian market then all bets are off as to how high the price will be on transferable ones. Greg

Hmmmm I have a Colt HBAR Elite in the box. I wonder what I might get for it at the Dallas gunshow this weekend. I've never been a profiteer before.

I don't understand this anti "profiteering" thing. If you sell your house for a profit? I have some silver purchased about 10 years ago; anyone here care to explain just why it would be immoral to not sell it to you for the $4 an ounce that I paid?

Also, I think it would be informative for the profiteering-is-immoral crowd to do some research on the effects of price spikes and "profiteering" on the allocation and use of resources in the face of scarcity. The absence of price spikes leads to something even more immoral: hoarding.

I can see makeing a little profit, but Gouging other shooters I don't like. With the primers, they going to $60 a 1000 again. Just down right hate this S###! I,m trying to shoot by reloading and now there going to make thing even harder. Try lowering the prices, then see how many you will sell!

Joe , If I had a way to ship'em I'd sell you a couple K of primers for what I have in them ($17-$32 K depending on type)

Thanks Roger but right now I have enough for the season and then some. I knew this was going to happen as soon as the election was over, its going to be a long four years!

joe..its not the selling price TODAY...
ITS THAT I CANNOT REPLACE what i sell you today....
if i cannot sell 25k in primers a month i am out xx dollars ....
how am i to male up for the lost income ??
you guys gonna send me money just to keep me up and running ??
too many of you whine when it cost you money but neve look at the the other side....
it COST ME MONEY to sell you something i cannot replace..

its life.
.its called supply and demand...
our economy is based on it...

I think a lot of people here are mistaking the way they act with people in their inner circles for the workings of a marketplace. If a good friend or family (or even a club member with whom I'm on good terms) were in dire need of a few hundred or a thousand primers, I wouldn't sell it to them for $100+/thousand. I'd probably give the primers to them. But selling them through a market? Nope, then they will sell at market prices. I just checked BR.com marketplace and had trouble finding the ads selling primers at $25/thousand.

You cannot take the way you interact with family and friends and expand that to a rule to determine interaction with the world at large.

Not a one of you would think of selling a house you bought in 1975 for what you paid.

I argee it is bad. I have delt with sinclair int. for twenty years. well i tryed calling for two days and never got through to them,i dont know if it's the merger thing or if they have that many calls. all i know is everytime i have ever called them they answerd and 4 days later i had my order.
but locally i still have been able to buy primers off the shelf's..I bought 1,000 fed GM205's for $2.97 a pack the other day..
I sure hope it pass here in a few month's or i will be out of everything.

Buncha' Marxists here..........

Not me, I'm an American, a capitalist, it's not "hoarding" it's preparation. It's paying attention. It's the old Ant and Grasshopper story. It's government OF the people, BY the people versus Big Brother. It's self-reliance versus having a mommy watching over you....alla' you'se whiney biotches might as well roll over now, save the pain.

Y'all WANNA' be like the rest of the world!

sad
